    Sarah's training

Thought I might as well start a training log here. I'm a bit different than most people here. I'm more of an endurance athlete. I have been a figure competitor and have lifted heavy and hard for quite a while. I still lift, but lifting has taken a backseat to running. I started as a competitve runner when I was 7 years old. I'm 29 now, and I've had a few years off somewhere in between but my heart has always been there.

Half marathons are my distance of choice. I'm currently getting ready for one on Oct 7th. Righ now witht he race coming up 've only been lifting once a week. Most of the time I lift twice a week. Once a year or so I'll do a little muscle building phase and hit the weights 3 times a week. I'll probably do one again for a few weeks after this upcoming race.

Scheduing my workouts isn't too hard since I'm 100% self employd. Ok, 99%. I teach a class at the YMCA once a week. I do a lot of online training and I also have an exercise studio where I tran people. The studio is actually one story of my house. So yeah, I live at the gym.

    More later.

Workout: long repeats followed by sprints
    Location: Track
    Distance: 4 miles

    This workout looked like this:
    1/4 mile warm up
    3/4 mile fast (5k pace)
    1/4 mile recovery
    3/4 fast
    1/4 recovery
    3/4 fast
    1/4 recovery
2 laps of 200 meter sprint/200 meter recovery
    1/4 mile recovery

This workout was much better than the last time I did the same thing. Times on the repeats were actually slightly faster than 5k pace: 6:11, 6:08, 6:00. The 200 meter sprints aren't full out sprints, but faster than 5k pace. Today's were 50 seconds and 43 seconds.

It was definately a good hard run!

So.....I'll repeat what I posted yesterday and this time I hope it shows up.

Yesterday was speedwork at the track. I did long repeats followed by sprints. It looked like this:

        1/4 mile warm
        3/4 mile at 5k-ish pace (6:11)
        1/4 mile recovery
        3/4 mile at 5k-ish pace (6:08)
        1/4 mile recovery
        3/4 mile at 5k-ish pace (6:00)
        1/4 recovery
        1/2 mile of jog 200 meters/"sprint" 200 meters (not a full out sprint, but a strong run) 200's were :50 and :43
        1/4 mile cool

For 4 miles total. Damn good run!

Today was just a 4 mile easy run

Tomorrow I WILL get an upper body workout in!!! :BP:

Gotta get some work done now.

grrr my laptop isn't working at all. I'm stuck on my PC down here in the gym.

            9/20

Sept 20 and it was 85 degrees out. WTF??

I did my upper body workout today, yay me!! For the first time I tried my back machine for crunches. The thing hangs you upside down. I wasn't completely upside down but most of the way and I did crunches that way. It was great. I wasn't sure I would like it.

Busy day. I had to take one of my cats to the groomers for a make over. After his make over we ran errands and we were the hottest couple in town! hehehe! My husband and I went on a nice walk this evening in the woods out to a spot overlooking the lakes.

Tomorrow will be super busy. I have to do my 10 mile tempo run, help a friend move, and I'm volunteering at a fair. I had better get up early.

            Night night.

Yesterday was my 10 mile tempo rn. It SUCKED. I was doing great up until mile 8 when I BONKED bad. Oooooh did I feel miserable. I actually stopped and turned off my watch for a couple minutes. I managed to finish. My time was 1:27:56. Not bad considering.

After that I had tohelp a friend move and volunteer serving food at a fair. Last night I swear I was too tired to sleep. It took me an hour and a half to fall asleep because I was TOO tired. Ugh.

Today is a rest day but I had a ton of work to do. I would have rather actually rested, but I had too much to do.

Hopefully I'll be able to check in soon.

Quick check in here since my internet is actually up for a minute...we still can't figure out what the deal is.

Beautiful day today. I did my 13 mile long run. It was a bit hot, but windy so it felt good. It was smooth sailing at a comfortable, easy pace. I forgot my watch, so I have no idea how long it took me. Oh well, what difference would it make anyway. I'm tired tonight, but not completely exhausted.

Dinner is ready and one thing I am is STARVING!!!

Thanks! Long runs feel great. Most of the time anyway!

Today I actually did upper body, woohoo! That will be my last weight workout for a couple weeks. I've made out a semi rough plan:

-Training for half on Oct 7th
-Rest for a few days, do a local 5k just for fun on Oct 13
-Then I'll have 2 weeks before I go to Vegas. I'll get in a few runs and a few weight workouts, but be relaxed about it
                    -"Rest" week while in Vegas
-Come back and start a 7 week semi mass building program. I'll be doing weights 3 days a week and run 3 days a week with cals quite high. The focus will be trying to gain some mass without losing too much in terms of running. since my weight training has been really minimal for a while I think it will be easier than normal for me to grow, so i think I can actually see something noticable in 7 weeks
                    -Break over Christmas
-Imeadiately after Christmas start training for a 10 miler in February

And that's it! I feel good having a solid plan.

Today was a 4 mile hill run. Completed it in 41:29!! That's almost a minute faster than last time. Woohoo! It was extremely hard but I was pushing it up those hills.

Have to leave at 5:30am to get Bill to the bus station. Must go to bed asap!

So, 85 degrees yesterday and 90 today? What the heck is up with this!

Got up at 4:45 and dropped Bill of at the us station. I went for a 4 mile easy run at 8:20 and it was already roasting out. Miserable. It's raining now, thank goodness.

                        I'm all alone for 8 days!! That's the alone-est I've ever been!

OMG this OBNOXIOUS woman called me today for the 4th time about training with me. She rambles on about shit she's seen on TV about diet and exercise. Like half an hour each time we talk and I TRY to cut her off. She offered me good money to train her for 3 months though so I gotta take it. I can suck it up. I'm just going to tell her than I have to leave prompty after one hour each time and screen my calls. lol. And have her sign a specific contract!

I decided to make today a rest day. I have 2 more hard runs before my race and there is still time to get them in. I was feeling groggy and just a bit sore all over... I did about 20 minutes of yoga and that's it for exercise.

The woman from the newspaper finally showed up today after she forgot our first 2 appts lol. She took pics of my gym and did an interview. yay!!

30 days until I leave for Vegas, yeehaw!!

My run this morning was uncomfortable, but it went really well. It was so unbelievably humid, ugh!!! By mile 2 there was sweat dripping off me on to the ground. I carried a towel with me but it was soaked through from wiping my face by mile 5.
I did 11 miles and I wanted to make it in 10 minute miles or less and I did! 1:49:40. So great!! :headbange

Lee and I went shopping today, which was a nice break from the norm. He got new sneakers. I got sandles and a couple new things for the gym (weights and stuff).

                              Weekly wrap up:
                              Ran: 32 miles
                              Weights: none
                              Yoga: 20 minutes
                              Other cardio: 2 mile walk

Today is my last tough run before race time. It's my 13 miler. After this I'll just do 2 easy 3 milers this week.

Weird day yesterday. My mother did another trail ride. This one was right up the road from me. Only 5 people as opposed to the last one which had 80. Other weird family things that don't even make enough sense to describe...
