    Train trip for travel/vacation?

Anybody else have experience with this? If so, what were your experiences? Tips? Where did you go? Where do you want to go?

My parents went on a trip over in Colorado a few years back, and they loved it. It took them to the back country to some little town(s) on an old train.

I've always wanted to take one of those luxury coaches cross country.

I've done a couple of those in Europe, but wasn't there for personal reasons. Traveling across the countryside, in a private sleeper cabin, taking it all in, would be awesome.

Never took a train. Took a bus once when I was 20, going doing to KY from OH for training on a power line job. Met a cute 18 y.o country girl. We hit it off from jump. We both got off in Louisville. I got a motel to wait for the supervisor to pick me up the next morning, she came over, and we did the nasty all evening. Good times.

I rode the train for leisure travel frequently when I was stationed in Korea. I loved it. Just chill, enjoy the ride, scenery, food, drink and company. It forces you to relax because you have no control over anything and you don't have to deal with traffic, checkpoints, security, layovers, etc like you do when driving or flying.

I've never done it state side.

A train trip across the country is on my bucket list. New York to California. Get a pass where you can hop on and off wherever you'd like along the way. I'd need a month to do it though.
