    QUESTION ABOUT GUT

    I'm 6 foot, 189 lbs, 9% BF, and have a nice 6 pack.
Under my 6 pack, or just under my belly button i have been swelling in the past few months, as if i had a gut ...
    I don't though.

My waist used to be 32, now its 34, but i am leaner now.

This does not make sense to me.
I have been using a lot of weights to do my abs, crunches with 80 lbs on my chest, and cable crunches with 140-160 lbs.

My carb intake is fairly low, about 200-250 gramms per day.

What is a lifter's gut? I have heard this expression before?

Also another question...is it normal i only see my abs really well when i flex them?
Or should they be visible at all times?

    thanks

Two reasons that your waist measures larger are you are getting fatter or you have increased the size of your ab muscles. If you are lean enough your abs are always visible.

          damn!!

          This is not good.
Maybe we should do our abs without weight?
I'm gonna lay off the cable crunching and use a swiss ball for a few weeks to see what happens.

Another thing i was told today is not to drink any milk...i have been drinking about 2 -3 cups of milk a day with my muscle milk.

lactose can swell us up i hear ?!

          thanks

You look great man, good job. Too much milk just gives you unpleasant gas, at least I get it. I make sure that I don't drink no more than maybe 2-3 cups a day at the most, good source of protein, but has too much sugar. I also use 1%

I believe the swelling is from your abs growing. I stopped useing wieght for abs and my waist did get smaller. Abs are like all other muscles..Lift heavy-Grow big.
              I am a carb lover...so I'll never have a sixpack, yet I dont look like a 55gallon drum anymore..LOL.

                      milk and abs

Thanks for all the compliments guys...There's no better mental feeling than having a good body at my age (45). All this was done in one year and 3 months.
April 2003, i was 27% BF...and had never worked out.

I have a question about carb cycling.

I am pretty sensistive to carbs, be they low or high GI they still make me swell up.
So on and off i will do 15 days with zero carbs to get than ripped look again.

When you guys cycle carbs what do you replace your carb intake with ?

When i eat carbs, i will eat maximum 35 gramms of fat per day.
Obviously when i do not eat carbs for 10-15 days my fat consumption goes up considerably.

My protein is stable at about 350 gr per day.

So when you guys eat one day high carbs, and 2 day low carbs, what do you do ?
Eat more fat ? on the days when carbs are low ?

Another point is that i think i have been more successful doing full body workouts, at a very fast pace, than just doing one or two muscle groups per day.

I never go to failure, but i will rest about 10-15 seconds between sets.
This can be really tiring but i have dropped the fat with a vengeance.

I have tried going to failure many times, but a few minutes later i can always lift some more with that muscle...so what's the definition of failure ? what's the time frame in which one can determine failure ?

                      Thanks

You should never go more than three days at zero carbs maximum.
Your brain cannot function on zero carbs for long.

Here`s how I cycle my carbs using 200 grams as a high day.

                            Day-1) 150 grams
                            Day-2) 100 grams
                            Day-3) 50 grams
                            Day-4) 125 grams
                            Day-5) 200 grams

I just keep cycling like this with no added protein or fats on low carb days as I feel it intereferes with fat loss, and messes up the cycle.

200 grams is a good amount for most people to start with and they can tweak it up or down from there depending on how carb sensitive they are,or what their bodyfat % is.

If and when I hit a fat burning plateau I will drop to zero carbs for 2-3 days but no more than 3 just to get the fat burning process started up again.
I may also increase carbs by 100 grams of so for two days only and increase cardio.
I typically do 3 days low, followed by two days slightly higher and I always get down to 4-5 % bodyfat or even lower at times.

Good luck dude you look great and I hope some of these suggestions help you out.
