    Our dog that eats anything

We have 4 dogs, the youngest is a female pure breed lab, smart (we thought) and very athletic. Unfortunately, she hasn't met anything she wouldn't eat....especially socks, my daughters in particular. We take great pains to keep bedroom doors closed and socks, especially, picked up but she finds them and swalliws them so quick it's amazing. We've been lucky, she usually poops or barfs them up until yesterday. I came home from the gym yesterday morning to a couple of barf piles of her breakfast and a sock. She seemed ok but later that night she lost her supper and was very quiet, she is usually nutz until she is crated for the night. We thought it odd but when she refused to eat her breakfast we knew something was wrong, she is the first one done eating and usually bothers the other dogs who are still eating. We called the vet and got an earky morning appointment to get her checked out. They called a few hours later and said the x-rays showed 'something' but they couldn't be sure. They remarked about how quiet she was, they know she is crazy, They gave us two options, we could take her an hour away for some more tests or they could to exploritory surgery to see what was going on, we opted for the surgery. Very long story somewhat shortened, $2000 later she is out of surgery with another of my daughters socks in a baggie. Frickin' idiot, we knew this would happen some day. The vet told us that they have had dogs operated on 4 times for swallowing stuff, no guarantees she won't be back in the future. We just don't get her appetite for socks.

I miss my pure bred lab, but not this stuff I don’t miss.

They are the smartest and the dumbest animal at the same time. Must be a right brain left brain thing. Like they can solve problems like open And and closing a door, climb extension ladders, know your mood at a glance, fetch a double out of a duck blind, and have a hundred word listening vocabulary.

But know enough not to eat a sock (or in mines case a whole shoe)?......nope over and over again

Glad she's better now. That can be fatal. Keep the socks in the drawer or laundry basket!

She just finds stuff to chew, we learned of her stealth when she was a pup. Nothing was safe, she even chewed holes in the middle of two different walls. We take her swimming, run the snot outta her chasing a frisbee but when she is bored...she chews. We think she grabbed the socks out of the laundry basket while we were folding clothes. I told my wife I'm gonna put a muzzle on her whenever she is in the house, we can't afford another $2000 hit. Frickin' dog.

I had a dog that literally ate my couch when it was teething a leather couch it was stripped down to its wooden frame n some metal parts. Would eat a bunch of bananas whole peel and all . Some even gave him the boiled head of a goat it was basically all bone he ate it and carried the teeth around for a few days before eating them too. He was 150lbs Argentine dogo so a much bigger dog then usual

My dog loves cat shit. I cant make her stop eating it. It cant be good for her. Probably not as bad as a sock. But over the years my various dogs have eaten lots of odd things. Most of them living creatures they've caught in our woods. Nothing like having your dog drag a half eaten gopher turtle up to the house. Or the head of a rabbit? I'm thinking where is the rest of it?
The Joy's of dog ownership. They eat shit, lick their ass then want to come give you kisses. I love it!

Had a English bulldog that ate the siding off the house. Loved the shit out of him but he was an idiot.

I have a cat and he is very choosy when it comes to food. I keep changing his dry (biscuits), there are 3 different bowls in my flat and every bowl contains a different food.

I never had a dog but I watch The Incredible Dr Pol on TV and it seems dogs eat everything including toothpicks ...
