    Lunk Alert? What the ?

I watched a Brian Shaw video of him sneaking around Planet Fitness trying not to get kicked out for a "lunk alert".

Apparently there is no groaning, or loud noises while lifting, no dropping or slamming any weights and the max dumbells are 50lbs.

    Is this true???

It's funny, one just popped up about a mile from my house and I joined it out of curiousity. I always keep 2 or 3 gym memberships so I don't get bored and I figured for $22/month what the heck I'll give it a try. The dumbbells go up to 75# not 50#. There are a couple of lame things about PF but overall I think it's ok. You do have to deal with some of the Jersey Shore type people who walk around like their stuff doesn't stink with their gallon water jug and don't re-rack their weights. A lot of the younger guys in their 20's have no gym etiquette and don't even know what re-racking your weights means which can be frustrating. Then I also have a gym membership that costs me $140/month and there is none of that which is always nice. I guess you gotta take the good with the bad.

If you think about it do you really need to make a bunch of loud noises when you lift. I get the occasional grunt because you are trying to push or pull heavy weight, however, I've been in the gym for 25 years and I haven't really found the need to make excessive loud noises, and then dropping and slamming weights.

When they first opened they were quite strict on dress code and proper workout attire. I think they got somewhat relaxed on that when someone filed a lawsuit because they got kicked out for what PF thought was inappropriate. Although Dakota, I would have to say that it is hilarious seeing the lunk alarm on the wall. I have never seen it go off though. I think they tried to start off with a concept that, hey we are not the normal gym and we want to welcome everyone even if you are not in the best shape but in all honesty the PF I joined here is just like any other gym such as Snap fitness, anytime fitness or one of those places. There's really no difference.

I just joined to so that I could check it out and it's really not that bad. I don't know if I will keep my membership but I don't regret joining.

Planet Shitness. No benches either. Where people go who don't want to put any effort in. I mean have you ever met an in shape guy who benches or shoulder presses 50's?

I don't like screaming or a bunch of yelling but I would have to admit there have been plenty of times that I have let go a sound from hell trying to squeeze out on last heavy rep.

I fart when I squat down during squats. But then at my age I fart sitting down.

I joined my 3-4yrs ago. I did for when I go do cardio in the afternoon. 10/MTH, no complaint. I like the atmosphere too. I have 2 other gyms I go to for weights.

They do have benches but no barbell. They have Smith machines, DBS up to 75 and weighted EZ bar up to 70, I believe. I have done weight training a few times. Wasn't too bad...

Yes no barbell benches, but what good is a dumbbell bench even if the weights go to 75? Smith machines are good if you're targeting hams and glutes cuz you can stick your feet way out in front while the rack takes the balance. I hate them for bench cuz every asshole on Facebook posts how much they bench on a smith machine. Drives me nuts, I'm like that's not real 315 buddy.
