    Disc Replacement

Has anyone had this performed on them? I have one back surgery and they want to fuse me but I won't let them but to be honest, its coming. I just looked into this and I am interested to say the least but I don't know if anyone has been through it so I am curious to hear if you have.

I have a friend that had the surgery two times and after the surgery his disc shifted so now he gets injections in his back and neck

One of my BW brothers had it done and said it was amazing. He had his done by some cat out in Cali who is like a pioneer in the field. Appreciated gents... I am still wondering which way to go. Its not gonna be right now but it is inevitable.

Disc replacement sounds scary and I myself may be in need of that eventually due to degenerative disc disease in my lower back.

That's the thing about terrorists, they are incredibly insensitive. I have 5 discs in various stages of degradation but my last one which I believe is L5/S1 is gone. The report said the disc is ruptured and the material has leaked out. The get better as you go up but the bottom is obviously the worst. I had 2 different neurosurgeons look at me and they wanted to fuse me but that would be 7 vertebrae (1 above and 1 below) and that would be this cage like thing and I was like, "nah bro, I'm good". So for the last 8 years or so, I have done injections which worked well for me. But, as with all things, the inevitability of needing something done is coming and now I am seeing this new disc replacement stuff and it looks promising as the FDA (if you trust their data) claims a 90% success rate.

Ouch 7 vertebrae in a cage? Hell no. If these replacement discs are made just like the natural ones I'd be a bit more comfortable with that. Maybe someday the replacements would be lab grown to produce discs biologically like what's in your spine and that would really fix these issues.

If Elon would quit mucking about in space and get on it.....

LMAO but yeah, I can see that evolution occurring and may in fact be on the way, who knows but I can see it.

Elon putting chips in peoples' brains...that's one thing...

In a way would love to see Elon shake things up in the medical space like he did in outer space and with Tesla.

He’ll just put chips in the disks and we’d be tracked and monitored!

I said in a podcast that if you would have told people 20 years ago that you wanted to track their location, monitor everything they say, everything the read, look at, and listen to..... people would have revolted. Now, we go to Verizon and pay them to track us.

Ive got 4 artificial discs in my lower back.

Like you i put off the fusions as long as possible but the pain got so bad i finally buckled and did it.

My first fusion in 2019 was from L1 through L5 and several years later L5-S1 was totally shot and i had that fused in 2022.

Its a hard choice for sure. Worst part for me is im still in pain after all this work. Not as bad as it was so they helped but not to the extent I had
                        hoped.

Good luck with whatever route you choose.

Man I don't want a fusion. I am checking in with a cat our here where I am working in Texas and I will probably make a consultation just to see what options are available. My Neuro back in Ga doesn't do disc replacement so the fusion was his only offering. This interests me. Do you think that the pain is the fusion or the disc replacement of both?

Quite honestly I think its the hardware myself but they keep telling me everything is fine with the hardware. I think my body just doesn't tolerate the foreign parts very well. But technology is getting better everyday and robotics is a big plus so hopefully if and when you decide to have it done you'll have the best of whats available.

I have a hip replacement scheduled next month for my other side. took me a year to decide to do it based on the not so great results from previous surgeries but again the pain trumps all.

I had a full disk replacement done in my neck. This surgery was nothing compared to when I had my back done. I did not have a fusion in my back either, just a discectomy/lamenectomy at L5/S1
