Smart Lifting
Hello All:
I have been in this game since the mid 80's and have had my share's of the up's and downs in my career and have learn from them.. I was dumb when I was young and did my STUPID LIFTING bc I had to show all that I was the shit.. BIG MISTAKE, I injured my back bad and to this day, it never gets better. I have 3 degenerated disc's in the lower that will NEVER get any better. I have to compensate when it comes to the power exercises BC my back can not handle the stress and pressure.. What I have learned over the years and years of lifting that we are all subject to injures and as we get older, injuries come quicker and take longer to heal from. So with this said, I came up with my own theory that I totally believe in and that is: "Smart Lifting is the key to longevity". This is true and I feel if you want to last in this game for the long run, take this theory in consideration. Hope all is well and Peace Out to all.. MOB... I think we have all been down this road. I tell these young guys to leave their ego at the door & forget about ego lifting. Concentrate on form & try to stay injury free.

You have plenty of company here. Many of us cope with weight related injuries and just plain old wear and tear. No more maxing for me ever, no matter how great and pumped I feel that day.

I hear ya. At age 52 and history of back problems, found out my disc's are degenerated.
Sucks not being able to squat or DL these days, but my workaround is belt squats (nice decompression with those) and very light trap bar deadlifts. (Reverse hyper's first to warm up). Keeps my head right at least as I love performing Squats and dead's,but need to come to grips w/ myself. Go lighter, train smarter.. |
