HOUSTON – Authorities have ended a two-year investigation with the arrest of 66 Houston-area body builders and personal trainers accused of distributing anabolic steroids, human growth hormones and other drugs.
Authorities say 51 defendants were indicted Wednesday on state charges in Fort Bend County, while 22 were indicted on federal charges.
The Houston Chronicle reports that authorities are still searching for seven other people who were charged in warrants.
Sheriff Milton Wright tells the newspaper there are no sports celebrities or high school athletes among the 73 suspects.
Zoran Yankovich, a spokesman for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in Houston, says the investigation began with a complaint of steroid use in local gyms.
