    Dumbbells

I have decided to work out at home for the time being (at least until the gym manager kicks out the idiot who thinks that chatting about soccer is more important than lifting).

I have limited equipment (bench, dumbbells, treadmill). Please give me some ideas on workouts.

Damn. I don't know anything about your situation, but I wouldn't let anyone get to me like that. I'd be choking some throats before I change my life around some idiot. Are you saying he's constantly bugging you while you're trying to work out? Sounds like he needs to be shut down. He needs to respect your space and time.

Go to the gym. Use headsets and listen to Music.

I have three gym memberships and almost everyone at each probably thinks I’m a deaf mute or only speak German.

A bench and dumbbells can provide for a great work out and a nice change up from the gym. I have a home gym with a big rack of dumbells that I use to escape the exact problem you speak of. I am getting to be a crabby old man that has no patience ratchet jaws and text addicts and I need to get away sometimes.

In the alternative, a well placed throat punch works well to bring about the atmosphere conducive to a good work out.

I agree with some of the above. Go to the gym....use your headphones. If he doesn't get the hint with that I would allow him one or two times after you nicely tell him that you don't appreciate or find his conversations interesting and you are there for a workout....not for social hour. If he keeps at it after the second time you tell him....file a complaint with the owner.

I filed a complaint but owner says he's giving the guy one more chance (it is the 2nd time he says that, I've had enough).
I'm not going back there unless the bugger has left. I'm tired of listening to his bullshit. I'm not at the gym to socialize.

Obviously this guy does not understand gym etiquette. His behavior is disrespectful not only to you but I am sure to others as well. The owner needs to realize people like this and their actions will make members leave and go else where. This was his second chance.

I can't understand how someone else talking interrupts your workout, is he chatting about soccer to you? If he is maybe he thinks your cute.

lol I was thinking along the same lines. Maybe he's trying to flirt. Either way nothing shows someone you're not interested by putting your headphones in and starting your set while he's in mid sentence. Just don't pay attention to him. You may think it's rude but it's rude of him to keep pestering you.

90% of the people in my gym are more interested in texts and chatting than they are at lifting. On any given session there will be maybe 2 or 3 serious lifters there. At least if the serious guys occupy the same area, everyone else just stays out of the way while we work out. I kinda gravitate towards other PLs and BBs for that very reason, no waiting for the text exchange to wrap up.

I gotta admit that before I walked away from my investment I'd take other measures.... you paid just like he did, why walk away???

MG don't let some fool try to make you look like a wuss, come on now girly. Just get to the point - next time he tries to talk to you, just be blunt & tell him that he is bothering you and to leave you alone. If that doesn't do it, get nasty and tell the fukker to get lost and that you are going to file a harassment charge - in a VERY angry tone.

Having said that, there are many exercises you can do for a decent workout with what you have available.

                          Chest:
press, flyes, if bench is adjustable, you can do both of those exercises also on incline. Bodyweight exercises you add in are push-ups, and dips between 2 chairs if strong enough to do dips, or use your feet to assist.

Back: bent over rows (pull low to hip for more lats, pull high and far back for more rhomboids, mid trap, middle back detail), pullovers, deadlifts, straight leg deadlifts, pullups/chin-ups from a high bar/beam (use chair as assistance if needed)

Shoulders/Traps - overhead press, Arnold press, side laterals, front raise, bent over laterals, upright rows, shrugs

Biceps - curls, hammer curls, concentration curls, preacher curls (put a thick towel or pad on back of high chair for cushion)

Triceps - lying extensions, overhead extensions, kickbacks, bodyweight tricep dips (hands behind you on chair & feet on ground or if strong enough, feet on another chair)

Legs - squats, lunges, step-ups, lying leg curls squeezing db between feet (very awkward exercise btw, but light weight is do-able), straight leg deadlifts, single calf raises on block

                          abs - take your pick

Hope that helps, but more so, hope you "man up" and keep hitting the gym. You've been in this game far too long to let someone/something distract/annoy you to the point of not going.

I have a lot of friends at the gym. It's just a matter of being honest with them, even the ones that aren't really your friends. Sorry bud I'm in a rush. Then just put in your earbuds and pick up the weight and go. If he doesn't go and keeps yapping just repeat. If that doesn't work then go to another station. If he follows you that's harassment. Then you go to the desk and complain the creep is stalking you around the gym. There, you haven't been confrontational and worst case you are expressing that you are justifiably harassed.

He is a 58 years old guy with no brain. A few weeks ago I was lying on the bench doing chest presses and there he comes while I'm in the middle of a set insisting on saying hello. Wtf!
Then another time I'm doing leg extensions and again in the middle of the set he comes and starts chatting about soccer.
I told the manager of the gym to get him off my back. He says "I had refused to renew his membership but he begged me and I give him one more chance".
So be it .... Working out at home is cool and cheaper.
