Post second surgery notes 11:35/2:50 1/23

Last note to relatives from 1/22/21: “ Thursday night was horrible. I refused dinner. My stomach was full and my entire abdominal cavity was bloated beyond measure. I threw up 3 times and I never ithrow up. I had problems not being able to fart or burp the last 10 months. Instead, I experiencre; about every 8 seconds; 2 to 5 involuntary stomach “spasms. Thursday it continued from 3pm until 9pm. On-stop. Very exhausting! ” It turns out, I have "Ileus," which is where the intestines get repositioned and the folds create blockages. I felt terrible, barely could speak and was dizzy. The Dock put a drainage tube back in my nose to equalize the pressure between my stomach and outside air. I collected over a quart of fluid in less than 90 minutes. Feel better but atill nauseous.”
1/23/21: “Stomach spasms the last 6 hours. Started coughing yesterday & ripped out 3-6 staples across under my belly button.” “ouch!!” “I told the nurse and she did what she could but I was bleeding down my front all night.”
1/23: 12:54 pm: “ The doctor was poking around and I started bleeding heavily; just pouring out, I’m going back to the OR to get put under & stitched up.“
1/23 cont. 4:55pm: “Another 3 hour surgery today. Had to repair where I ripped out several (3-46) staples when I coughed yesterday. Was bleeding all night. This time they did everything right, I can feel it!”

1/24/21 12:30am: To relTives and friends; “Everything has completely changed since my 3 hour surgery last afternoon. No bowel movements, no abdominal cavity drainage; niether gas or fluid, very slight/sharp pain at the T-point suture but very stable, all stiching has been done “old school” and with meticulous care; no redness, stretching and/or swelling around suture lines, a bit of drainage from my “stomach through nasal cavity line,” but less gas and swelling. The nasal tube wasn't deep enough into the stomach yesterday, the new one is. Also yesterday I couldn't pee because I couldn't feel, connect or control the muscles around my bladder. Completely changed after surgery today, now I have sensitive control and can feel the slightest squeeze. I think my umbilical cord hernia surgery (3 years ago in October 2018) left some things messed up, bladder was one; another was I thought a piece of my intestine was caught by an outer suture, prevented it from moving around. The cause "Ileuc," an irritating and unnerving "tick," or series of spasms (I would get 2 to 5 "spasms" in my abdomen almost every 8 seconds for hours and days; horrific, unnerving & a constant distraction. Yesterday these "ticks/spasms" went 7 hours straight. I only got an hour each of relief for 3 hours along each after getting an injection each time and no relief ever the rest of the day!”

1/24/21 continued: “ I have suffered from these bouts 3 to 5 times per week in the past 10 months. I have not had a single one in the past 7 1/2 hours, since returning from surgery around 3:30. Add to this the 93 year old man in the room the past 5 days, just taking percocets, overheating the room constantly exhausting me, always saying he was “tired,” “his muscles hurt” and "I can't poop!" and, "can I have another Percocet," was finally tranferred! The first thing he asked the driver after they told him where he was going was, "Do they have Percocets there?" To which the young guy replied, "Oh yeah, they got lot's of Percocets!" The man, "Oh, ok!" Good riddance! I had the girl turn the heater down to 64° before they left!”

1/24/21 continued: “ Long story short, after the hell of my last 5 days, leads me to respond by nothing less than sheer luck, total competence and absolute amazement; in another other word; God!”

I hope that you feel better soon, the pain meds can inhibit your ability to pee and crap.
