The avoid grapefruit portion concerns me. I've been dowing 100% grapefruit juice every morning for the past month to control hematocrit. I'll find out next month from bloods if it's worth the estrogen trade off.

There are different estrogen receptors which are produced by different genes and have very different, often opposite, physiological effects. In many tissue types, including prostate and breast tissue, the alpha-ER is associated with increased cellular poliferation, which explains why estrogen promotes cancer and gyno. The beta-ER on the other hand, inhibits cellular proliferation, preventing cancer, gyno, etc. Evidence indicates that phytoestrogens preferentially activate the beta-ER, which explains one important mechanism by which they prevent cancer and gyno. Interestingly, tamoxifen also prevents breast tissue proliferation by activating ER-beta. Phytoestrogens are often referred to as "natural SERMs". Phytoestrogens are known to have many other beneficial effects in addition to preventing cancer, including potent, beneficial anti-inflammatory, neurological and cardiovascular effects. Evidence suggests that in addition to preventing prostate and other types of cancer, consumption of phytoestrogens may also prevent benign prostate enlargement.

Cardio-protective effects in males.

Recent experimental studies in male mice have found that phytoestrogens have very potent cardio-protective effects, and are even able to prevent aortic aneurysms.

Dietary Phytoestrogens Inhibit Experimental Aneurysm Formation in Male Mice

"Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) are a gender-related disease with a prevalence of male to female ratio 4:1. Estrogens play a protective role in AAAs development (1–3). Phytoestrogens are plant-derived chemicals that are strikingly similar to estrogens both in structure and function. Therefore, the potential benefits and risks of phytoestrogen exposure have already attracted much attention (4–9). Major sources of phytoestrogens include soybeans, alfalfa, and flaxseed. Phytoestrogens are selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) and have anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-proliferative properties (10–14). Animal experiments have demonstrated that phytoestrogens can reduce plasma cholesterol and attenuate atherosclerosis (15–17). . .In summary, the present study showed that dietary phytoestrogens inhibit male experimental aneurysm formation by reducing the inflammatory response in the aorta of male mice."

Phytoestrogens also prevent strokes in the brain in males:

The term "phytoestrogens" refers to many different compounds with different physiological effects, some adverse and others beneficial. However, evidence seems to indicate that the many potential health benefits of dietary phytoestrogens in the quantities found in soy and flaxseed would outweigh any potential adverse effects. They reduce cholesterol and blood pressure, as well as prevent gyno, prostate cancer and other cancers like skin and colon cancer. They also protect the brain and improve cardiovascular health and physical performance. Flax seed are also high in omega-3 fatty acids which have many other health benefits.
I think I'm now gonna have a soy protein shake with soy milk and ground flaxseeds to get a health dose of phytoestrogens. Cheers.
