New York, NY, United States (AHN) - According to a report in the New York Daily News, Drug Enforcement Administration agents intercepted a package of performance-enhancing drugs when it was sent to Jose Guillen’s wife, Yamel Guillen.
Monitoring the activities of the suspected supplier, agents confiscated a shipment of 50 pre-loaded syringes of HGH. According to a source, the Daily News reported the former Giants outfielder arranged for the HGH to be shipped to his San Francisco address.
MLB’s Department of Investigation has been contacted by federal agents about the shipment and will continue to investigate whether anyone else in baseball was involved according to the report.
Guillen hit .266 with three home runs and 15 RBI in 42 games for the Giants after San Francisco acquired the outfielder in a trade with the Kansas City Royals.
A nagging neck injury hampered Guillen for most of the 2010 season and he was left off the playoff roster as the Giants made their run to the World Series. Manager Bruce Bochy claimed he dropped Guillen from the roster due to Guillen’s injury, not the investigation.
This is not the first drug-related incident for Guillen.
In 2008, Guillen was also linked to performance-enhancing drugs when he reportedly purchased HGH and testosterone from 2002-05.
