It's called a "miserable user" ban. trouble made me a "miserable user" at ironmagazine. We have had the miserable user hack installed at several boards I was a mod on, and I recognize it. You are NOT technically banned, but you can log on 1,000 times and while it shows you are online, you get a message you will need to register before you can post or read thread. To all the members online, you appear to be online or off, just not posting. The mods and admin see little red letters spelling "miserable" under your name. No one else can see it.
