Wegovy and Ozempic, while both based on the active ingredient Semaglutide, serve different primary medical purposes and come in different dosing strengths tailored to their respective uses.

Wegovy is specifically approved for weight management in adults and certain pediatric patients (ages 12 and older) who have obesity or are overweight with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol. Wegovy is administered via subcutaneous injection once a week, and its available dosing pens are in strengths of 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 2 mg, allowing for dose escalation to manage tolerance and effectiveness in weight loss.

Ozempic, on the other hand, is primarily approved to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It can also be used in diabetic patients who have established cardiovascular disease to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events, such as heart attack or stroke. Like Wegovy, Ozempic is given as a weekly subcutaneous injection. However, its dosing pens come in strengths of 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, and 2.4 mg. The wider range and higher doses available for Ozempic reflect its use in controlling blood sugar levels and addressing cardiovascular risk, which may require higher doses of Semaglutide.

In summary, the primary difference between Wegovy and Ozempic lies in their intended use, with Wegovy focusing on weight management and Ozempic targeting blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk reduction. The dosing options available for each medication are designed to cater to these different therapeutic goals.
