L-Glutathione

How it works
The secret to how L-Glutathione works is the sulfur chemical group that it brings to the body. Imagine sulfur as a sticky filter that traps the toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis, from mercury to other heavy metals. The good news is that L-Glutathione is recycled in the body, just like you would change your A/C filter every month. However, the bad news is that when the amount of toxins in the body becomes excessive, it will lead to malfunctioning.

Deficiency
L-Glutathione is produced in the body, but due to poor lifestyle and exposure to toxins/stresses, we must supplement it to get proper amounts of this amino acid. Amazingly, doctors who have treated chronically ill patients will tell you that almost 100% of them have an L-Glutathione deficiency. The Lancet - a top British medical journal, found that most of the young and healthy people had high amounts of L-Glutathione, while older and hospital ridden people had the lowest amount of this amino acid. This is hardly a coincidence, and should be a wake-up call. After all, our bodies did not evolve to be able to handle toxic industrial chemicals from what we drink, breathe, and eat.

Use for bodybuilders
Athletes put their bodies under a tremendous amount of stress as it is. Add to it the use of anabolic steroids, which can negatively affect the immune system and the body's organs, and you will understand why it is so important to supplement with L-Glutathione. This amino acid renders you the ability to recycle antioxidants, giving you protection from ailments and diseases.

What's more, when you are on a heavy steroid cycle you also need help to detox the body and release all the poison out of your body. L-Glutathione acts like fly paper to trap all of that bad stuff, and carries it out via our stools. This is why you will feel so much better while on these types of support supplements, as they are literally cleansing you on a constant basis.

Research has shown that L-Glutathione also helps a person peak mentally and physically. This means great recovery, fewer injuries, more strength, and an increase in fat burning metabolism.

Side effects
Since L-Glutathione is naturally found in the body, it is absolutely safe to use. In fact, some of those who are doing chemotherapy will be given this compound to help ease side effects.

Dosage
When taken on its own, L-Glutathione should be dosed at 100 milligrams (mg) per day, but it works best when stacked with other support supplements.

Where to find
N2guard contains 100mg's of L-Glutathione per serving, plus dozens of additional ingredients, all which are extremely beneficial for an athlete's health. I use n2guard daily for my L-Glutathione dose.

Glutathione 2017 Update

Oral Glutathione Bioavailability Update
Many internet forum gurus seem to claim that supplementation of oral Glutathione is useless because it has no bioavailability; hence, they believe it is pointless as part of your supplemental stack. Studies have come out over the past couple years which have disputed those theories once and for all.

Glutathione benefits
In case you are only reading this updated part, and have not yet read the original (scroll up), then you might want to understand what Glutathione is really all about. Glutathione is a tripeptide found in all our body cells and works by regulating stress and immune function. Many times, unhealthy individuals who simply look 'aged' will be found to be deficient in Glutathione. This is why it is known in the fitness world as a potent antioxidant.

Studies proving bioavailability
Previously animal and in-vitro studies showed positive results for bioavailability; however, a particular human study which was done for a very short duration and did not show good results. Unfortunately, this poor study has seemed to be grabbed onto by those who failed to truly understand how flawed the study was.

A long-term study by the European Journal of Nutrition (EJN) was done for 6 months, which was randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, and on over 50 adults. Subjects were given a placebo or oral Glutathione, dosed from 250mg per day up to 1gram per day. The results were tracked at 1 month, 3 months, and finally at the full 6 months. Each interval showed an increase in Glutathione, with the high dose group showing a 260% increase within the buccal cells. Even in the low dose group levels were boosted by about 30% in blood and erythrocytes. Also, both groups showed drops in oxidative stress.

CONCLUSIONS:
These findings show, for the first time, that daily consumption of GSH supplements was effective at increasing body compartment stores of GSH.

After stopping use after 1 month Glutathione levels returned to normal.

Immune health
The study also showed that after 3 months of use, the high dose members doubled their in natural killer cell cytotoxicity compared to placebo. More studies on immune health are needed to truly understand the potential of Glutathione, but it is safe to assume that it will give you a large boost to your immune health especially when combined with vitamin C and E.

Conclusion based on studies
Glutathione is indeed bioavailable, but it needs to be used just like any other supplement at proper dosages and for proper durations, to be most effective.
