Update On Life

I have not posted very much for a while now. Life has been kicking my butt. So for my brother's here I thought I'd give you an update on my life. I know, you're on the edge of your seat right?
Okay. I wake up. Eat. Go to work. Come home. Work out. Cook. Eat. Do dishes. Give my wife her meds. Watch TV for 1 orv2 hours. Go to bed. Repeat. Lol.
Exciting, right?
As many of you know my wife has early onset alzheimers. I have committed to keeping her home. She will not see the inside of a nursing home unless something happens to me.
Her mental condition is deteriorating. Some days worse than others. She smokes weed to help with depression. It seems to work pretty well. But her memory is declining.
She can't do anything well, hardly anything for herself any more. She can't cook, clean, pick out her clothes, make her coffee warmth the keurig. She won't bathe unless I get stern with her. She insists she just had a shower. And yes she did, five days ago. LOL. When we watch TV I have to explain everything for her. She can't read very well any more. And this woman used to be the city clerk for a city.
She has recently asked me who I am on several occasions. Once she walked into the house and swore it wasn't our home. I've caught her staring at me in the middle of the night. She said she's trying to figure out if it was me.
I could go on. But you get the picture. She can't even make a sammich any more. Lol
Last night she asked me if she was a burden to me. That she was worthless any more. I explained to her that it was my privilege to take care of her after she took care of me for years. And how lucky I was to be able to show her how much I love her while she is still alive. Then I reminded her our vows were for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health until death. And I'm a man of my word.
She said thank you. Then asked me what day is today? And tomorrow is???
So I've been a bit busy. But I do pop in when I can. Like now when I'm goofing off at work. Lol
Appreciate your wife now. Help her around the house. I never realized how much time and energy goes into cooking, cleaning, laundry, groceries. It's a full time job.
So give your wife some excellent sex tonight. And when she's lying there breathless and flushed with her heart pounding and she asks what brought that on, tell her it's for your buddy George, Roughrydr. Lol

Oh damn, sorry to hear this about your wife man and she'll be in my prayers. Is she on some medication regimen that will slow the progression?

May the good Lord give you the strength to deal with this one so stay strong!!!

Sorry ta hear about all this brotha. My dad had Alzheimer's for several years before passing from pneumonia. I will never forget the first day when it actually hit me. My wife and I went to watch my nephew play a soccer match.....my mom and dad were already there. We had brought our dog with us(dauschund) and I walked up to my dad and asked him how he was feeling today. He then looked down at my dog and looked at me straight in the eyes and said "My son has one of those dogs".....that was like a punch to the face. I was like wooooooow. He was my dad and he didn't recognize his own 40 year old son.

Once my dad was put into a home my mom would go see him every day and multiple times a day. After awhile he no longer was verbal and at times would not recognize his wife of 65 years. She once was asked "Why do you come every day to see him when he no longer recognizes you?" She replied back.....'He may not remember who I am but I will always remember who he is".

My prayers are with you and your family my friend. Do remember that we are here for you as well. Always keep in touch brotha.

Man, that’s gonna be me one day (the one with Alzheimer’s). I just know it. My memory is already soo bad it freeks me out some times. Your a good man Roughrider! That has to be tough. I will feel bad if my wife has to do that for me. I hear stories like this all the time now. Is this disease more common nowadays? More than it used to be? Seems like it anyways. Wonder why?

Why not go get checked to determine your risk of getting Alzheimers later in your life? That might help you even plan for it when it does strike so that your loved ones will be able to help you as well.

Basically it's a sort of assessment done and your doc can arrange for it.

Both my grandmother and my mother had alzheimer's/dementia. My grandmother went fast, almost straight to dementia, lasted maybe 6mnths. 11yrs later and a year after my dad died in 2016 my mom displayed signs of dementia. Stopped taking her heart meds and slipped into a coma. I'm always thinking is this gonna hit me? Don't know how my wife would or could handle it if it did.
I give you mad credit brother...being there for the worst of it and giving her your everything. Respect...

It may sound strange to.most of you but we are both grateful it is her that has it. I can care for her no.mstter what. If it was me I'm so strong she would have to place me in a home for her protection. And I have a feeling most nursing homes would have their hands full trying to deal with me until my body quit functioning. With the alzheimersshe has forgotten that it is terminal and frequentlymakes the comment that she'll be glad when she gets over this mess. She really doesn'teven remember that it's alzheimers. She just calls it her messed up brain.
