I feel real good about this one.........

it is for a local car dealership, they have been in business for 40+ yrs and have 2 locations.

anyhow......it is a Service Sales Advisor. Hours are perfect, benefits are good, and pay is better than any job I have ever had. He told me today they should have a decision by the end of next week, and he told me during the interview to "rest assured" he was deffinately interested in me for the job. So wish me luck, this maybe the job that gets me back with my family.

good luck big guy, i hope you get it....

and since youll be getting paid the big bucks, you can donate to my getting a car fund...lol

the big bucks? hahahaha, yeah uh huh.......

he told me it was a 30K base, and then commission on top of that, he says I should be making 40-50k a year

right now I am making around 30K a yr, do not see my family much, oh and did I mention I hate my job?

thats the big bucks to me right now, i can only work my scheduled 20 hours a week and possibly cover some shifts to make a little more, btu thats only when i dont have something conflicting. and i only make $10 an hour. so in a year ill make 9600 before taxes.

and with the paycheck i just got yesterday, ill have $1000 in my savings for the car, insurance, registration, and maintenance once i get it, so im gonna need at least 2-4K more.

I hope you get it hun!!! That would be so awesome for you!!!

I have to say anti- you are a student for gods sake- what do you expect to make? You are lucky to even have a job. G4E is a family man. And as for a car, I was finished nursing and working for a year before I got one. I imagine the vast majority of students do not have their own vehicle. It shouldn't be high on the priority list at this point in your life.

IG you would be suprised to be honest I can not think of one person I know in college that does not have a car, and I know thousands of ppl. Having a car in school is the norm so anti I wish you the best of luck

G4E it's good to hear your interview went to so well. I really hope you get the job and things start looking better.

I might be going into the car business to b/c My dad keeps telling me when I graduate if I don't find a job i'm going to have to go work for him (he owns a ford dealership). Heck he told me this summer if I worked for him he promised i'd make atleast 500 and it's not unusual for one of his guys to pull down 5K a week every once in awhile.

G4E if you do get the job don't go in there on your first day and talk about all them damn homos lol, it probably won't get you promoted very fast. Just something to think about.

thanks KC, I will remember that.....lol, I live in a small community and you NEVER see anything happen here. If two guys were seen holding hands they would probably be kicked out of town.....lol

And I also wouldn't start screaming whether you're anti abortion or pro choice either that could also cause trouble lol. I'm here for you always trying to help.

Well guess things are different down there Matt. The majority of students that go to University/College where I live either walk or take a bus. Yes some have vehicles but certainly not the majority.

I was lucky to have a real good job starting at 17 years old. I was driving a new sports cars at the age of a college kid.

KC u crack me up man :hahaha: :hahaha:

Oh if I get stuck and forget my routine I just throw a Git R Done in there. That keeps people laughing long enough to think of something else.

G4E- How do you live of 30 grand a year??

Is the cost of living very low in your area?

very difficult, but I manage....lol

the cost of living is lower here than some areas yes, but average pay around here is like 12 bucks an hour, if you make 14-15/hour that is consider a "good job"

I think it is a joke, but what am I gonna do about it

The cost of living is pretty reasonable in this area too. I'm older so I know things that you migh not. But did you know that 25-35 years ago most people could get a job and plan on working there untill retirement. Both my parents worked 1 job their whole life and had pensions with they retired. I've never had a job that offered a pension. My first job was my best and wished I was still there. He was a self made millonaire came from nothing. Started the business in a trailer behind his house and today he owns a huge 2 story building in a prime location a private jet. I was talking to him about 5-6 years ago when I went back but only made it 2 weeks. We were talking about money and I said if I made like him I would have a million dollar house. It's kind of funny he said well my $400k house is everything I need and I could buy a million dollar house but I don't need that much. He was talking like just $400k most people will never have anything close to that. I've rambled long enough.

he said he would let me know at the end of this week or the latest would be first of next week, about a second interview

alright, well since you guys are down to earth and obviously been around the block. heres some questions:

How much money do you guys think i should have to buy a reliable used car?
Do you know of any simple ways i could make some extra cash on the side of school and my job?

Really depends on what kind of car you're talking about. If it was me I would be looking and cars with a solid track record of reliability and hold their value. Something like a Toyota Celica or Honda Civic. Either one you could get one several years old for decent price and they go forever.
