Two weeks ago I tried unsuccessfully to start my motorcycle so I could drive to a friend's garage to work on it. I tried to move my truck closer to jump the battery when my clutch slave cylinder collapsed, darn! I wasn't upset though as the day before I drove over 3 hours round trip to my daughter's water polo competition and I was just glad the truck got me through all those 2-lane back-country roads without breaking down. I called the tow truck and let my friend know my predicament with the bike. Sure enough he showed up with his truck and trailer to take the bike to his garage. Friends are great! We spent two days rehabbing the BMW R100 and I with the truck out of commission for a week and the weather being so nice I decided on a road trip. Long story short, I went 1,550 miles over 9 days and it ran like a Boss. From North of Philadelphia I went to Lake Erie, to a few colleges I attended, through Amish Country in Lancaster and was back in 4 days with 650 miles. Picked up the truck and drove it to a front-end shop for new ball joints and tie rod ends, then hit the road again. the next 5 days I went to Delaware, Ocean City, MD, back to Dover to visit family, then took the Lewes Ferry to Cape May, NJ. After getting some surf shirts for my kids I road the length on New Jersey to the foot hills of Connecticut. The Fall colors were perfect. On the way back through New York I hit 2 1/2 hours of pouring rain, with cold weather behind it, but I kept pushing on. Finally into PA the weather totally changed to blue skies and mid-70's temperature. It was so nice I took the river route from Stroudsburg all the way to Lake Nockamixon then home. In total, 1,550 miles and my butt is not even sore. Thank goodness for a good seat!. My shoulders and arms got a great work-out, a good prelude to getting back in shape. This is the ride; photo taken yesterday!

How did you carry your clean underwear? I assume this was after the walnut incident

I used a bookbag/backpack. I bought shirts for my kids along the way and mailed them and my dirty clothes in separate plastic bags (in boxes) back to myself at intervals. I wore BMW motorcycle boots while riding and carried short leather hiking shoes in the bag. I wore BMW All-weather padded pants and carried jeans in the pack. My jacket is mesh outer with a removable rain/wind proof liner. Several t-shirts, undershorts, socks tooth brush and toothpaste in the bag and left enough room for one quality fleece (to wear or carry). Winter BMW gloves and a full-face helmut. (Thank goodness for that because I hit a lot of insects!) Challenging ride with weather temps from 39 to 80 degrees, made me feel young again!

I'm a silver fox at this point, although I "Held several vessels at bay," the only one I emptied was my bladder (and at varied intervals)! A ressurgeance is needed, and a renaissance is called for! Can the miles support such a drive?
