Spot reduction & targeting abs/waist?

I remember reading articles by 2 guys long ago - Serge Nubret & Thierry Pastel - both who had some of the best abs and tiny waists around - saying they did very high volume for abs/waist instead of cardio. Both attributed their killa midsections to countless reps of various crunches, leg raises and twists. In a sense, spot reduction of the waist. What's you vets take on this? Keep in mind, Nubret never did have supercut legs or back, but his midesction was ridiculous. Coincidence, or something to this?

Good conversation but I don't think spot reduction of fat loss has ever been proven. Genetics decides were fat is burned not targeting areas. Targeting areas for muscle growth is another story.

I never trained abs til recently believing there's no such thing as spot reduction ... But I feel it makes a noticeable difference to train abs as long as ur dieting n what not ... I wouldn't not do cardio though

Not sure. I was reading an article awhile back - think it was by Jim Stoppani or Layne Norton. Talking about how some tests were being done showing that if one combined ab work with sprints, the ab work showed more postitive results than if the ab work & sprints were done at separate times. It was like run a sprint, then immediately do an exericse targeting abs, and they had subjects perform 5 supersets of that. I'll try to dig it up, or maybe LI or Glyco remembers seeing the article. The article was titled something similar to ab/waist fat spot reduction.

Thumbs up for sprints. worked really well for me in the past.

Yes it's been proven in exercise science studies throughout the country. They take three groups. one group does only treadmill, one group only does thigh work, and one group only does ab work.
The thigh group loses most fat in the thighs, the ab group loses a greater percent of fat in the abs. Arnold stated this as fact nearly three decades ago.

Do you guys think doing heavier squats contributes to a thicker waist?

What kind of a time frame are you looking at DPH?

To get results asap (pre-vacation) I try to basically elimate carbs or keep under 50/day.

Eat lots of chicken and fish, then up the fish oil tabs to 40/day along with coconut oil.

With your genes i doubt you will need to change much since you already cleaned up the diet and added cardio.

I would switch from peanuts to almonds tho...good luck bro :igok:

No time frame really. Just wanted to tighten up the midsection. And honestly, I probably made a mistake taking such drastic measures so quick. I've only done 3 ab workouts and 2 cardio sessions and the abs & waist are already responding well. That initial diet gig left me really with no energy for the gym and minimal pumps. Not happening. So I just revamped and cutting down on the junk food sessions and decreasing carbs some, but not so dramatic. I see with me the results came so fast, that I think I will be gtg by just including a few sets of abs after workouts, and some cardio here and there, along with the subtle adjustment in diet. In short, taking Buf & Oz's advice. Thanks for the input bro.

Are you familiar with the article I mentioned regarding combining the two?

No but it sounds reasonable that they would work well together. for years I would go to a local track and run sprints and do stretches and cals as part of my little routine. Not much these days since I moved.
