Why is it that sometimes when you squeeze the damn pump nozzle it will go fine for like 5 seconds and then stop? It's almost like I have to angle it correctly and use just the right amount of squeezing pressure from preventing it from doing this. It's flipping annoying.

Anybody know why this happens and how to fix it?...hopefully there is a fix.

if you're filling an empty tank the vapors trip the safety mechanism on the pump. you need to hold the spring vapor guard back with your fingers to jkeep it from shutting off, or hold the nozzle a little further out from the filler neck, so the vapors can escape. Don't run your tank that low in the future.

I'll give that a try, thanks:)

I actually have had it happen when not hugging the empty line. Last nite at costco (did you get gas to go along with the chicken? heh heh heh), my car still had a little more than a quarter tank left in it.

Does the type of car make a difference...for example, a V8 compared to a 4 banger?

I guess it could still have vapors obviously even if it isn't near empty....

Nah, some nozzle are more sensitive than other to back pressure. So if the nozzle isn't angled just right, it will kick off to "save you". Here in the Smokies all the nozzles are "circumcised" like the old school ones and you rarely have a problem with them kicking off. The "uncut" nozzles like in California where I grew up are a pain in the ass.

i guess I should chime in on this seeing this is what I do if you are having this problem at all gas pumps and vehicle is newer with evaporative emissions equipment you most likely have a failing purge solenoid or vent valve on your evap system if it is happening all the time these are the two main causes
good luck reps
