Felt a strage pain at a novocaine injection site upon leaving the dental office three weeks ago.
Didn't think anything of it because he forcefully applied the novocaine needle, over 9 times, and I thought it would be fine, it wasn't.
Turns out he broke off a piece of my jaw bone and now it's floating around in there and trying to come out. Ouch.
Teeth he worked on are fine except for residual pain from a swollen jaw.

Now they are talking about oral surgury to get the bone fragment out.
It is presently about a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch below my molar, which also hurts like hell. My gum is pushing the fragment out.
Very painful. They just gave me an antibiotic in case it pierces the gum and set another appointment for this Wednesday.
I had no pain going in. The appointment was just to replace two old fillings.
They are also now talking about pulling my last molar which has no filling and I've never had trouble with.
Any advice?

call a personal injury lawyer, goto a second dentist and get x-rays and second opinion.

do you have insurance that another dentist will take....I wouldnt feel comfortable going back to the same one....and I never heard of a dentist breaking off a piece of bone....he must have really screwed up....some personal injury lawyers give one hour of free consultation...

sorry to say but from from a dentists stand point that makes no sense....it's almost impossible to break part of your jaw from an injection....in fact I would say it is not possible at all....I would get a second opinion....also sounds as thought they want to take your wisdom tooth out which is normal....

agreed . if a needle broke your jaw then you have SERIOUS bone issues.

I'm going to ask my family doctor to do a Bone Density Test.
About the Dentist, I could feel him actually bending the needle while it was in.
I've had a few hundred shots in my day, in all sorts of spots, so I know what it feels like and he bent the needle. End of story.
