hey everyone, bringit here. i'm a long distance runner hoping to learn a little more about the scientific side about my sport. i compete in the 1500m, 3000m steeplechase, and 5000m, and compete in cross country during the fall/winter. i train extremely hard, lots of high mileage with an emphasis on threshold and tempo work. i'm up for any new ideas, and have pretty thick skin so i'm not afraid of being grilled for asking questions that might seem obvious to you, but complicated for me...cheers!

oh ok, nope, started here last night. i think there's a fair bit a runner can learn from bodybuilders as far as building more power and how to use supplements and which ones to use

Bringit, I used to run distance when I trained for the two-mile run. I would run 8 to 12 miles 3 or 4 days a week. I used a hill curcuit with five hills each over a mile and they were steep. My best time was 1 hour 20 minutes.
In the two mile, I got down to 11 minutes flat at 172 pounds.
I'm sure you are running much farther than this, but what helped my running immensely was that I used to ride bicycle for my off-season. I would put in 50 to 75 miles a day on days I didn't work, and 25 to 40 on work days.
The different muscles this developed helped my running greatly, gave me a semi-break (although I still ran, but not as much), and increased my VO max. Welcome to A&E.
