ron_paul_maine.jpg (Long Island, N.Y.) Three days before Super Tuesday, Texas Representative Ron Paul gained steam in his bid for the Oval Office by placing second to Mitt Romney in the Republican GOP nominations for the state of Maine and ahead of Senator John McCain in garnering over 35% of the votes. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney logged 52% of the total votes to win the state.

?In the last weeks, I was sure it was Ron Paul,? said Julie Ann O?Brien, executive director of the Maine Republican Party. ?But in the last three to five days, both of the Republican candidates Romney and McCain really kicked into gear and got people up here.?

10-term Texas Congressman Ron Paul was the only candidate who personally campaigned in the state of Maine and drew tremendous support from local groups as well as the business sector from the area. In the last quarter of the year 2007, Ron Paul amassed over $20 Million of funding for his campaign and was the highest and most successful Republican fundraiser.

This placing by Dr. Ron Paul in Maine?s caucus represents a growing national support for his candidacy and installed new optimism for his supporters and staff coming into the biggest Tuesday of his campaign. Dubbed as the ?Tuesday of Destiny? on Feb. 5th, 2008, the Republican GOP nominations will simultaneously hold Primaries and Caucuses in 21 different states including Utah, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Georgia, New Jersey, California, Alabama, West Virginia, North Dakota, Montana, Missouri, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Illinois, Delaware, Connecticut, Colorado, Arkansas, Arizona and Alaska. The total size of delegations for Super Tuesday will be 1,081 for all 21 states, a number that will give tremendous advantage to whoever seizes the day.

?Ron Paul?s strong second place finish in Maine, in which he beat John McCain, is proof that this race is far from over,? said Ron Paul campaign manager Lew Moore. ?We?ll continue to battle for every delegate in this wide-open race for the Republican nomination.?

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney?s win in Maine solidified his spot as a serious contender for the Republican GOP nomination as he closes the gap with Arizona Senator John McCain who was the early favorite after winning on key primaries in Florida and South Carolina in January.

A damn good turnout for someone who gets almost no media coverage.

Ron Paul is making a lot of promises he can never deliver. I'll be voting McCain!

6 out of 10 people I talk to about Ron Paul haven't ever heard of him. The other 4 have total misinformation they over heard someone else say.

It shows why the mainstream doesn't want his message heard. They know when people get the real information they are not so easily convinced his ideas are bad. In fact once many hear the truth, they find he is the only one who is actually telling the truth and think much like they do.

Who wouldn't want the government off their back and not have so many laws fucking with them?
I mean, it's that simple! When you find a guy that has multitudes of issues and you can know his stance, have proof of everyone decision he's ever made, with over a quarter century voting record to prove he's the real deal; A man who runs everything he says in direct line and reference to the Constitution, what's not to like? Unless of course you think the Constitution is just a smelly old piece of paper that you may as well wipe your ass on. Seems to be what people's actions are saying from the bullshit I'm seeing.
And it damn sure is the message the government is projecting.
The police laugh in your face when you speak of your constitutional rights. They think they are a joke and work hard at abusing them making them void through precedence of their actions.

What promise is it exactly senator Mcain is going to deliver on?
Besides interference of government in sports (just like communist countries- he already pulled that , i'm sure you aware) maybe keeping us in Iraq, dragging the world into unnecessary conflicts and having plenty more wars, increased deficit expanding existing laws with higher penalties, strengthened patriot act, amnesty for illegals, a spread out weaker military stretched to capacity and the same old Nixon era CIA loving warmongers running the show.

Of course your child should be the first to be drafted along with everyone else's talking about how we should continually engage in bogus conflicts. Because make no mistake, it's coming.

The only reason it's still volunteer is because the economy is so screwed and there isn't a lot of options for the young people.
I have a feeling you'll say you're alright with having your child drafted and you'll sing some little patriotic tune about duty.

The only thing is the way our wonderful government is ran, they give a damn about a soldier's life. Nor do they care what cause they die for as long as it keeps their pockets lined and their personal hold on power. They've also shown lack of support for those who come home maimed.

If that's the promises you're speaking of, I see your point. And John I wish you and Mcain could have you a little island to command , where you could torture little animals and wage war on the inhabitants living your dreams.

People like you love control. You've shown that on this board. Yes , why wouldn't you vote for someone who mirrors you..

:eek2: My big question: who's got the machinery to get anything done?

I have to agree with you loke, with McCain in office things will stay the same or get worse he doesn't want to change anything, It would be like voting bush again for a 3rd term. And what is the deal with these so called "republican" front runners
wanting to grant amnesty to those who are hear illegally, that encourages illegal behavior. I want change and I want a president who is not bought and paid for I will vote for Ron Paul!
