Although he is supposed to fight on the now July 19th card ... I still think Affliction's banned card is going to be the sh*t to watch....

Anyways here is the article on Anderson Silva.

While everyone else is headed down, Anderson Silva is on his way up.

Although the Ultimate Fighting Championship has yet to make its own official announcement, company president Dana White on Tuesday confirmed to Dave Meltzer of Yahoo Sports that there will indeed be a July 19 UFC event that will air on Spike TV.

According to Meltzer, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will headline the event, though there is an added twist. He will not be defending his belt.

While most fighters today are dropping down as many weight categories as they possibly can, the champ is headed up. Silva will make the move to light heavyweight, temporarily, without relinquishing his middleweight belt, to face James Irvin.

Contacted by MMAWeekly.com, Irvin on Tuesday confirmed the bout, saying that he had just received the contract and finalized the deal earlier in the day. Although other possible match-ups had been discussed, including one with Wanderlei Silva, Irvin was excited for the bout with Anderson Silva.

There had been much speculation in recent weeks that Silva would move to the 205-pound division, but no one really expected it to come at this juncture. Most speculation for a possible July 19 card centered on a main event with some combination of Brandon Vera, Wanderlei Silva, or Dan Henderson.

In his comments to Meltzer, White indicated that Silva would still defend his 185-pound divisional title later in the year, but indicated a future bout with former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell could be in the works if all goes well on July 19.

In addition to Silva vs. Irvin, a bout between Hermes Franca and Frankie Edgar, initially planned for Aug. 9 in Minneapolis, is being relocated to the July event at the Palms in Las Vegas.

The bout will be Franca?s first since returning from suspension for a positive test for steroids in California.

The UFC?s July 19 is a counter move to Affliction?s planned mixed martial arts promotional debut, also on July 19, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Affliction ?Banned? features a main event of Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia, carrying a suggested price tag of $39.95 on pay-per-view.

If i had to chose one, im watching the Affliction show....Ill probably watch one and record the other if thats possible....

order affliction and tivo the free spike card, gotta watch the fedor fight live.

I would much rather see anderson - okami 2

I imagine the only reason he is fighting at 205 is because he doesn't have the proper time to make 185.

Yeh spider is movin up to fight james irvin, to set up a fight against liddel
And vera is moving down to fight some guy from the IFL, to set up who knows what

vera - wanderlei was the first rumored match for this card, so maybe it will set that up.

it will be interesting to see silva at 205 hes a pretty skinny guy.. cant wait for the fite

they say his walking around weight is 215, so he will still have to drop 10lbs to make light heavy

Hell yeah man, the Affliction card is gonna be sweet! I cant wait to see that. Im just gonna dvr the spike show..besides seing Silva & Irvin the rest dont look too special. Anderson Okami 2 is gonna happen soon isnt it? Nobodys left really lol in the ufc anyway. Im interested to see how he does though. Hes a true athelete..I dont know if anyone can beat him for quite some time. It would be cool to even see GSP move up to take him on. Probly just dreamin though..:moon:

Spider will be good at 205. He's tall so adding the weight won't slow him that much. Actually for his height, 205 is more average. He fought successfully in pride at 205. The lightheavyweight division in the ufc is one of the most competative besides the lightweight div. Anyone can beat anyone right now. I think he'll do well. I'm not counting Irvin out that quick tho like many have been. Dude has heavy ass hands. We'll see if he can beat him on the ground and avoid knees in the clinch. I'd love to see someone kick silvas ass. We'll see with time if he truly is the best lb for lb in the word with the bumping up. GSP is very close as well as faber.

I was talking about kid nori from heros would whip up on faber from wec.

Yeah but does kid still fight mma? I thought he was giving it up? Or is his fight with Rani still on??? I don't really follow japanese fighting or K-1 at all anymore.

I have not seen many impress me as much as Faber has recently....Id pay to see him fight pretty much anyone....Luckily i dont have to do that with VS and all....I will be watching the Affliction card, and even considering going to it live...Not sure if i would rather pay for the nose bleeds and be there or pay for the pay per view and watch from the couch......

How the hell do you pop in and not say whats up to us all....You disappear and come back like not a days past....:D...Whats up man, where ya been?????How is the family, little one????

From my understanding he has put MMA on hold while training to compete in the 2008 olympics (freestyle wrestling) but still has 2 fights left on his K-1 Hero's contract.

He has only fought in K-1 and shooto so he is really not the well known to the outside world. But the "kid" is pretty damn good... Would love to see him fight Faber but don't think that will ever happen.
