Tired of Racism

I'm really, really tired of the racism in our nation. When I was in elementary school and integration was in its infancy (yes, I'm old), there were two black kids that started going to our school. One girl and one boy.

The boy's name was Ronald Clark. He would come by my house on the way to school and we would walk together. I didn't see black and white. I saw a person that was friendly and we just did the usual kid stuff every day.

It's the parents, grandparents and great grandparents that perpetuate this ridiculous racism. I grew up in East Texas. I remember "whites only" signs at the courthouse water fountains.
Even as a third grader, I believed it wrong.

All this animosity on this board concerning Obama's race is not the issue we are facing. Asian, hispanic, middle eastern, white, black, bi-racial, makes no difference to me as far as the race of the person. It's the influence of the person's associations, character, upbringing and beliefs that make the difference in my mind. I didn't vote for Dubya in 2000 and 2004. I didn't vote for Obama in this election. It wasn't about race or party affiliation.

We will just have to wait and see how all this unfolds over the next four years at the very least.

=========================================

I was raised to achieve on my own. Very little was given to me as I was growing up unlike the youth of today including my own.

My father was one of ten kids living on a cotton farm when growing up. He had his cotton sack and would have to pick a row of cotton several hundred yards before his daddy would give them a drink of water. He joined the army during WWII, got out and went to college at Texas A&M and graduated in three years.
Nothing was given to him. He worked and earned.

On my mother's side, her brothers would work at a dairy before and after school and make enough to feed the family. She would always be unrolling their jeans pants legs and scrubbing them on a washboard to get the dried milk off. She, her sister and her mother along with the three youngest boys who were toddlers would bathe in a pond. They had no indoor plumbing, just an outhouse. My mother's father didn't work. He just stayed drunk and the kids simply had to raise themselves basically.

If you've read this far, you may be asking yourself why was this posted?

Simply put, I believe that you reap what you sow. If you want to have a good life, a decent home and neighborhood and enough money to at least support yourself if not a family, then you have to work hard for it.

No one is "entitled" to anything on this earth regardless of your race or family tree. You have to do the right things, get an education and work hard. No one owes you a living regardless of your race, your religion and on and on.

We as a nation are in a precarious position on many fronts.

I don't care what "race" our president is. I do care about the beliefs and associations our president has had in the past and now. Those associations with certain peoples and ideologies definitely influence the direction that person will take us as a nation.

I believe it depends on where ya live bro. My $.02! I moved 100 miles north of where I lived my entire life. Very nice city that doesn't seem to have the issues I left in my ol home town. That being racism on both sides bro, not just white. One of my best friends lives in Auburn now called me to give me the low down on soem football tickets and told me about an experience his mom have just last week.

His mom goes in Walmart to buy groceries and decides to grab something to eat at McD's while she's there. She walks in and there really isn't a line so she just stands behind someone hoping that's it. A black woman walks in and loudly speaks out "where's da line" No one answers so my friends mom says to the woman "well I'm not really sure, but I got behind this gentlemen hoping this was it" trying to help the woman. The woman yelled out Awww just shut up white bitch! Ya'll just pissed off cause we put a black man in office. Everyone (all black) looked up and started chanting Obama, Obama. That is what I have live with for 38 years. I moved less than a year ago to get away from that crap. My buddy's mom drove to a neigboring town 40 miles away to buy groceries. I've heard my entire life that white are racist, but I see it more and more in blacks than I do in whites. Luckily it's much better living in Birmingham. I'm sure it's there but I see little if any. BUT the population of whites is 85%white, 15%black
compared to my old home town of 75%black 25%white. For a town that has less than 22,000 people it has three (3) private schools. They call the white's leaving the great white flight. As far as I know out of a graduating class of 223 students, I was the last white male to leave (I went to public schools my entire life).

The sad part is that anti "racists" will never come around to the view of a "racist", no matter what you say to them, and the "racist" will never come around to the way of thinking of an anti "racist". The only thing that will change an anti "racists" mind is getting a good dose of multiculturalism right smack in the face. i e, death of a child, rape and murder of a love one( wife or husband) loss of a job, denial of college admission, ect, ect.

I agree. I grew up in East Texas and have seen the racism from the white point of view. Blacks were considered inferior and abuse at least psychologically was rampant. The thing is, we all got along just fine when I was growing up in a more rural environment.

I'm sure there will be a considerable amount of time before the old black revenge ideology will abate. Like you accounted, I was driving down to see my aging mother and stopped at a Taco Bell. Two younger black guys were in there and one was loudly touting OBAMA. In my mind, it was purely racist on their part. I think they believe that with a president who is part black, they will now have control, impunity and some sort of reparation. They will be disappointed in the long run. As radical as I believe Obama to be, I don't believe he will completely cater to blacks.

I live in the Dallas area now and see much more racism here than I did where I grew up. My wife is a manager at a major hospital. She doesn't see race and has cleaned up the attitudes of anyone who tried to use the race card and has fired some based on that among other things primarily dereliction of doing the job.

People simply need to be decent and act decently. Consideration of others and doing your job is what she expected. If you broke the rules and policies, you were fired. White, Black, Filipino, Indian, Asian, etc., it didn't matter. She has gotten rid of any who weren't doing their job and abused or tried to take advantage based on their race or personal agendas. There were patients that needed taking care of appropriately and that was the bottom line. Needless to say, the blacks she got rid of tried to challenge her and the hospital on the decision but lost.

Not long ago, I was in a local pharmacy and there was an elderly black lady with perhaps her daughter. He buggy was partially in the isle and when she saw me coming her way, she was apologizing profusely about "blocking my way". I told her, "You're fine ma'am" and she told me "Thank You". Apparently, she was the "old school" submissive black. It dug deep into me that she thought she had to somehow accommodate me.

Yes, I have questions in my mind about Obama and his goals. I will have to see how things play out over time though. He is now our elected president. Maybe he is a pawn and maybe not. Time will tell. I believe that he is very smart. However, I believe that he still is trying to find his identity as a person in terms of where he fits in with his race and his religion. I believe that he is torn between his identity, his "racial allegiance" and where our nation should head.
Obama's association with Ayers and Khalidi troubled me. His drug use in the past until who knows when and the murder of Trinity's choir director perhaps to silence him raises questions in my mind also. He has spent twenty years in a church that preaches "Afro-Centric" ideology unlike most that promote Jesus. Was his admonition of Wright's "God Damn America" sermon a ploy to continue his candidacy and appeal to the sheeple? Just too many questions in my mind.

McCain was not perfect either. He had issues with living up to the expectations of his lineage much like that of Dubya. He manipulated things to his favor much like Dubya did. However, I believe McCain ultimately has the interest of the nation at heart much more than Dubya.

The bottom line to me is this. I don't care, sincerely don't care about your race as far as the president is concerned. Colin Powell may have made a good president, maybe not. Al Gore lost to Bush based on Clinton's getting a blow job and playing with cigars and trying to downplay it all.

I really wish that we could have had someone like Ron Paul who has a deep understanding of what this nation needs to do to remain solvent and achieve. Unfortunately, we are mired in the racism and the caste monetarily.

With Rahm Emanuell as his chief of staff, the Iranians are going nuts stating that Obama is a "traitor". I say "good for you Obama". You will not let any group dictate to you what you should believe in terms of the security of our nation and other nations. But there are still questions.

Will our nation still be able to reward those who have worked hard to achieve or will we become a socialist nation where those who work hard to achieve have to turn around and support those who don't work hard? Do your own identity issues influence your goals?

Do we owe those based on race or socio-economic status anything other than what they work hard for to achieve? I don't think so. If you read my other posts, I believe you achieve what you work hard for and earn, just like my predecessors.

I remember when I was considering applying to become a postal worker way back when and was told that if I was not black and specifically a black female that I had no chance of getting the job.

People, if you don't work hard, study hard, then you don't deserve a handout and a guaranteed job. I don't care about your race. You are owed nothing because of your race. I have seen Vietnamese who came to this country with nothing. A church sponsored them to a certain extent when they came here. By way of their own hard work and study, they all achieved. They become successful, every last one of them because they worked and studied hard for it. Isn't that what it's all supposed to be about in our country? We didn't owe them anything. They had the opportunity and worked for it. That's what it's all about.

Doesn't the problem lie here though KUJ? What is accepted as decent? Illegal immigrants from wayyyyyy down south such as central america and such, come here and set up a home with chickens in the front yard, pigs running around back, ect, ect. This is what they came from, this IS their culture, however, I do not want this particular family living next to me. My home is an investment, and roaming chickens and other farm animals in a neighborhood causes my investment to go down. Am I racist for not wanting them here by me?

Who defines decency? Me? You?, who? I personally do not think driving with rap music blaring that can be heard for a mile is decent? I think it is obnoxious and disrespectful, however this type of behavior is accepted by the black community as normal and decent.

I do NOT want to live close to a mosque for obvious reasons. My very existence to them is indecent. I eat hot-dogs, pork chops, and the women in my family do not cover up from heat to toe. Am I a racist for not wanting to live next to a muslim? How about are they racist for the way they feel about me?

The problem is not the different people with different ideas of what is decent and what it is not. The problem is not people with different cultures. The problem is trying to force all of them to co exist together in the same place. Anti racists cannot see this concept. Forcing people of different cultures to live side by side, while trying to observe each others individual cultures creates hostility as has been proven by the civil rights act of 1964. Over 50 years of murder, rape, and destruction.

I think the guy in my gym said it best yesterday

"a liberal is a republican who has not been victimized yet"

I understand your logic. Maybe it's perception.

I live in a multi-cultural neighborhood. Many races and cultures live where I live. From my encounters with them just in passing, they have all been decent. They are for the most part, friendly and talkative. We wouldn't have chickens roaming around in our community because there are ordinances against it. There is some type of Asian religious temple about a mile away. They bother no one. There is a Muslim temple just a few miles away too and of course, there are Christian churches everywhere. There are sometimes here lately some older black women all dressed up and passing out religious leaflets. I think they are either Mormon or Jehovah's Witnesses. I will listen for a minute and thank them for the leaflet and then throw it away after screening it. It doesn't bother me in the least that they are sharing their beliefs because the underlying message they are presenting is one of "doing right".

As far as rap or in our case loud accordion mexican music with the oompah tuba, there are noise ordinances.

I believe that most if not all people who are grown know what it means to be a decent human being regardless of where they're from. Granted, there are some cultural influences. But I believe that overall, everyone wants to be treated with courtesy and respect regardless of their race, religion or socioeconomic status.

We all want to protect our families and property. I agree that if you live in an upscale neighborhood, you wouldn't want a family coming in, buying a 250K house next to yours possibly in a remote or rural area and then letting chickens and goats roam around. But would that really happen? Maybe on the Beverly Hillbillies.
