I salute you! Not only for your service, but for the hell you endured climate-wise! Honestly I don't know how these guys did it. I'm only 1 hour east away by plane from Vietnam, so the weather here is the same. Summer has kicked in now, and man, this shit over here ain't no joke! Humidity over here is stifling and like a damn sauna! Hell, it kills me and I pretty much live in shorts and a tank-top. How the hell those guys endured this hell wearing those heavy-ass fatigues and carrying all that damn equipment is beyond me! :wdown::wdown::wdown:

People were a lot skinnier in the 1960's and 70's.
I'm sure your "mass" equates to more than their "equipment!"
But then again, they were a tougher breed, being children from WWII Vets.
They didn't have WEii's. They're idea of "virtual reality" was flipping off the safety and firing off short bursts of rounds, as needed.
I have worked with several Vietnam Vets, over the years, and they suffered mostly in silence.
That alone is worthy of my respect.

Acclimation is an integral aspect of military preparation; however, that does not take away from the mental and physical fortitude necessary to endure such hostile climates. That requires a certain inner-strength that can't be replicated through simulated military operations.

Shit a lot of those kids didn't have the luxury of being trained to acclimate to weather and certain conditions, they were drafted sent to boot camp then straight to Nam. I have an uncle that is MIA that served with the 101st Airborne LRRPs, we were told he was blown to bits but my grandma went to the grave believing he would come home someday. I never met him, he was my moms little brother and was declared MIA in 69 I was born in 71

On a hot day, on a sunny day, on a cold day, on a rainy day, on each day we should have gratitude for what they did for us. We can never say thank you enough!
