Carb Cycling

For cutting weight and preserving muscle there is not a better way to do it than by cycling your carbs. By doing this it keeps your body guessing and stimulates your metabolism and prevents it from getting staled. I use it and I have anyone else that comes to me for dieting advice use it, it has proven itself to work. It is not magic and like anything else you have to tweak it to make it fit your bodytype, everyone is different. The old adage that "What works for me may not work for you" basically applys here but it should be "What works for me will work for you if you make adjustments and learn your body first"
The basis for carb cycling is a High/Medium/Low cycle, but not the rule. Some people that carry alot of bodyfat may need to go lower, but never cut out carbs completely, Atkins was an idiot(Yeah I said it). Remember you are more worried about losing bodyfat and not just scale weight.
For instance if a 200lb bodybuilder were to do this it would go as follows:
Low carb days .5g of carbs per lb of bodyweight= 100g
Med carb days 1g of carbs per lb of bodyweight= 200g
High carb days 1.5g carbs per lb of bodyweight=300g

You must also adjust your proteins and fats, so basically you have to cycle them to to make this work. If you are on a high carb day your protein should be low 1g perlb of bodyweight and your fats should be low. Med carb day your protein should be 1.5g pe pound and med fats. Low carb days your protein should be 2g per lb of bodyweight and up the fats.

Another thing to factor in is where to place the high the med and the low carbs in accordance with your weekly workouts. I always advise doing a high carb day twice a week spread out by at least 3days, preferably on leg day and back day. The med carb days should be twice a week also spaced on the other 2 training days. The low carb on non-workout days. If you are one of the few that trains 5days a week then have a low carb on arm day or shoulder day. Try to adjust it so that you don't have any two of the same days in a row, it is hard to do this sometimes, workout schedule etc..
It is sometimes difficult to do this and it takes willpower and dedication, but the end result is well worth it. Good Luck.

I agree never cut carbs completely, not even when cutting for a show. When on a really restricted diet, I still injest 100-150 grams on a daily basis. This helps me maintain muscle.
