I just read this article written by Tanji Johnson(IFBB Fitness competitor) in a column she writes every month in Max Magazine called Spititual Fitness. Being that I am under alot of stress and adversity right now, my dog, my gyno surgery on the 15th and mostly my wifes pregnancy with compications, this article made me realize that I just have to think positive through everything and everything will work out. Whether you are religious or not, I think this is a good read.
A month later, we wonder...How are those New Years resolutions going? Did you make any commitment to lose weight? Perhaps this is the year you will quit smoking or spend more time with your family. Are you frustrated already or do you have hope and faith in your hearts that this is a blessed year for you? Let me share a real New Year's resolution with you that could change your life.
First, realize that you have a choice in life in all things. We cannot control what happens in life, but we can control how we respond to them. Every situation is a choice. You can choose to be a victim or you can choose to learn from it and see the blessings associated with the situation. God flowers us with blessings all of the time. Sometimes we just have to dig deep to find them.
Over Thanksgiving of 2004, my purse got stolen out of my car while I was at a gas station. Initially, I felt violated, angry and frustrated with inconvenience. Later, I became thankful that my wallet wasn't in my purse and that the culprit only got away with my phone and purse. I was inconvenienced without a cell phone for a week, but it really made me thankful that I didn't get my money stolen and grateful that I do not have to stoop to desperate measures to survive in life. I have the Lord as my Sheppard and trust that he will take care of all of my needs. I really started to feel sorry for the person who lacked character and security and felt the need to steal. Developing a positive attitude about my experience helped me to release unnecessary negative energy.
God calls us to live as children of the light, to be made new in the attitudes of our minds (Matthew 6:23). I've witnessed many people, including myself, that allowed others to affect there mood. But it doesn't have to be that way. Again, you can choose how people affect your mood. It's not always easy, but a soul that possesses a positive attitude will not find it too difficult. Therefore, I encourage you to add "Positive Attitude" to your list of important resolutions.
Attitude is the foundation of out way of life. "Therefore , do not worry about tommorrow, for tommorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble on it's own," (Matthew 6:34).
