one of my co workers started going to the gym with me. he's 29 5'10 and about...230, I dont think he should be a very big guy, he's got small wrists and calves, he's mostly gut. he's making great progress in the gym, I mean he's managing to get thru the work outs and not wimping out but...I told him one day that most of what you look like comes down to what you eat. he started reading alot and I usually can answer most questions he asks me but the one day he comes outta left field and says to me. "mike you told me to stay away from sugars and white breads and that meats are good for me. but I've been reading alot of the meats I eat are loaded with saturated fat and you told me that was okay. and some people do well staying away from moderate levels of carbs but even with me eating mostly vegetables, yams and whole wheat bread like you said I'm eating a hell of alot of carbs.
he read some people are doing good on a diet of protein and carbs. and others swear by fats and protein. I know the 2 paths he's talking about but I dont know which way to steer him. I eat a bunch of all 3 but I excercise enough and have a quick enough metabolism that its not a problem. his whole diet is suspect, I went to his house one day and now I dont know whether to tell him to cut out the pasta, whole wheat breads etc etc or the lunch meats, pepperettes, and canned fish. I wanna tell him to cut out everything and just go y'know 3 oz meat with a side of cruciferous vegetables. but I also see his problem and that he's really trying. last thing I wanna do is scare him away from the game. so do I recommend
low fat + carbs and proteins or
low carbs + fats and proteins ??
I got him taking 5 grams of fish oil a day
and eating 2 boiled eggs + a cup of milk for breakfast at the moment. thanks guys. I love getting him into the game, but this simple question is past my knowledge level for someone 30-40 pounds over weight. he knows I eat a $20 dollar T bone with 2 big yams and a side of broccoli every night for dinner (my cousins a butcher) and I think he's confused by what I eat in fats and carbs cuz I eat yams and canned sardines all day and tried to push them on him as good foods
