I was doing old school T-Bar rows, you know the ones where you put the olympic bar in the corner and load weights on one end, not those pansy tbar machines you see in the gym today. Anyways, I was on my 3rd set, 2nd rep and pop goes my lat. I came home, iced it and it swelled up and turned black and blue under my arm and I got a large lump under my armpit. I had to take this week off of work, which sucks, and I go see my ortho doc today to get set up for an MRI. I hope it is just a nasty pull and not a complete rupture. I was doing so good too, I had put back on 18lbs since Oct 1st and weighing 258 and feeling damn good. Damn that Father Time..LOL

That's a rough one.
What kind of plates were on the bar? 25's, 35's or 45's?
The reason I ask is because; the bigger the plate, the less the stretch and reduced range of motion.
Hope it heals for you.

Blue-black is never good sign man, it represents bunch of broken blood vessels and heavy damage. Most of the time, when you pull something it won't change color ,it will just hurt really bad. Good luck buddy, hope it is much better than it sounds like.

Damn D sorry to hear brutha. Other than Coleman, I think your the only guy I heard of that tore a LAT! Hope its not so bad bro...quick healing.

That sucks bro. Hope it's not too bad, but swelling and black and blue is not good. Atleast you seem to have a pretty positive attitude about it. Keep us informed.

I heard from guys who tore their lat before, usually occurs where they haven't done a particular movement in a good while. The fact that there was immediate bleeding is in a way a good thing and means its not tendon, so should heal quicker, just remains to be seen if its changed shape and insertion point

Wow that sucks bro. I hope u i didnt have a full tear. I know when i tore my pec that shit hurt big time. now it hurts when i bench even with light weight. neva gonna be the same

Thanks for the good thoughts fellas. Well, after seeing the doctor and another sports medicine doctor I go to, they both seem to think I have torn my teres minor. I have an MRI scheduled for next wed. I am doing much better, not alot of pain and I have full mobility, it just looks nasty and this pic does it no justice, my underarm is also bruised all the way down to almost my elbow. As long as I didn't tear the tendon that attaches to the humerus, I should be good and not need surgery. I have been going in for cold laser treatment everyday and deep tissue therapy so I am doing all I can. Take care guys..

I think that you may have lucked out, Of course it's never good luck to get an injury. But to not have to have surgery is good.

Damn bro, wish you quick healing. How many fucking plates did you have on the T-bar when that happened? I mean, do you think it happened coz a super heavy weight, or that maybe you wasn't warmed up enuff? Just curious. I don't know many that START with T-bars in their routine, so I'm ASSUMING it was warmed up enuff from previous exercises like pulldowns or whatnot right?

D, if you don't do much stretching before kicking the iron, you might wanna start bro. I think I got about 10 years on ya age-wise, and I KNOW its helped me alot in preventing tears. Merely hanging from a chin up bar for 10 seconds between sets gives one helluva stretch. Also, while standing, with one hand, grab something sturdy like one of the squat rack posts and slowly leaaaaan back far to stretch out one lat at a time. I'm sure you know all this shit dude...just sayin'.lol

looks minor from that pict and maybe a slight tear of the rear delt too along with the lat insertion - I think you did luck out

Nice one bro. Good luck with your MRI. I think you'll be ok.

Really sorry to hear that BSD. I ripped a tendon loose years ago (bicep) and it's not as painful as the type of muscle tear you have, but takes far longer to heal. In that aspect, you lucked out. I have tried ART docs...only 2 in my area, for soft tissue and tendon injuries and I am very impressed. Take a look at the thread I just posted. Get well soon my friend. :)

Well, I have been going thru all kinds of treatment at a Wellness center, cold laser treatments combined with deep tissue massages have really worked well. I have full movement and little or no pain, though I can't do a lat pulldown type movement without pain. I haven't worked out at all, just resting and have been off work on sick pay so it makes it nice to recover. I had my mri's this past tuesday, they had to sedate me, I hate those mri machines. I see the doc on wed, I really hope it is just a torn muscle and no tendon damage. Thanks for the kind words guys. And Hank, yeah I stretch and this was my 3rd exercise, but only the second week I started doing the t bar rows again and I think that I tried to go too heavy, too soon and should have let my body and accessory muscles get use to the movement though the weight didn't feel really heavy. Damn almost 40 and still making mistakes.

Shit knowin' yo big ass I bet you was pullin' 8 plate-Tbars on week 2.lol :D Kiddin' brah...hey at least you got sick pay. Fuck it...its done. Worry and stress ain't gonna do dick...enjoy your R & R and throw me a few percs while you're at it! :p Hope you heal quick big guy. :)

Class is always in session with this guy! :)

Happy healing bro

I got the results yesterday and damn, I tore myself up good, but no surgery as of yet. I have a full muscle belly tear in the upper part of my tricep(long head), I have a minor tear to my teres minor. Those will heal and already I feel alot better. I found out also that I have tearing in my rotator cuff, which was probaly done long ago, cause I have been fighting my shoulders for years now, finally got an mri to verify it. All in all, I guess it could have been much worse. I did a light chest workout last night and nothing was painful but I did a very light workout. I go back to work monday so that is good.

Upper tri and teres major...wow thats exactly like what Coleman had happen I believe. Not that it helps much saying this now D, but hey at least with ALL the injuries you have incurred before, I'm sure you can handle it mentally better than most. :)

That is true, I ain't even phased over this, I know I will be back again. I always am..

The fact you are already able to do light workouts is great news.
