If I were a Harley...

For many years I considered getting a Harley. Different excuses over time kept it on the back burner. It didn't fit the snarky, inner city special education teacher motif, but in the end, neither did I. Many times out riding with my best friend (who passed in July 2016) I would've preferred American Muscle over my BMW. I love my Beemer and ran it hard for 27,000+ miles over the past 9 years. It was truly tested and ended up tried and true, pushed me through many tough spots, but thinking this week, how cool it would be to ride into Washington, DC with fellow American Vets for the inauguration, thinking of my fallen brethren, or anywhere else that is, I finally challenged myself with the question: If I were a Harley, what would I be? I need shoulders forward, narrow hand-grips, heavy forks and meaty wheels. I came up with the new 2017 Breakout. Only thing is I would prefer a seat higher than 24", any suggestions?
PS: My friend left his Harley to his 23 year old son who I've know, along with his sisters, his entire life. Lives in Florida. Be a nice reason for a road trip.

Just get a Harley and stop pussyifing it. I put 15,000 on mine in 2 years mostly just cruising around the state.

You're a vrod. Not quite accepted as a harley by old crusty farts like me, but a harley ninth less and able to keep up with the kids on crotch rockets, which old timers like me have no desire to do.

I like the VRod only because the riding position is shoulders forward, but my BMW is an open road racing bike, not a crotch rocket. I don't have any affinity to crotch rockets or their riders. Just not my style. My 1984 R100 is a CS (Custom Sport) model, which basically means it has the same cafe racer fairing and close continental handlebars like the 1976, 77, and 78 R90 open road racer bikes, which swept road race championships when they came out. It's very balanced. I always liked the HD FXR's but really know nothing about them. I actually completed my motorcycle safety course at the Harley Davidson plant in York. Pa in 1979 on a Yahaha 250 Exiter. This experience (on that bike) saved my ass on many occasions.
