so..I was planning on buying some wine as a gift for valentines day (along with other shit of course), because I know she likes wines I just dont know what the hell to get lol. I know that she buys herself the pretty cheap wines so I wanted to get her a nice bottle of quality wine...doesnt have to be top of the line overly expensive shit. But good enough to show I went through some amount of trouble to get it lol. What do yall think would be good? Because I have no clue haha :wackit:

My wife normally will buy a 20 dollar bottle of merlot or white zin.....a cheap bottle will cost about 5-10 bucks....More expensive does not always mean a better tasting wine, at least thats what my wife says....

My wife has drank all kinds, but she always goes back to a brand called Sutter Home...I think its like 10 bucks for a normal sized one.....

Do you know what she normally has around?

Are they whites? Zins or kinda pink? Or dark Reds??

If your wanting the safe bet, kinda hard to go wrong with a good white Zin or a Blush. Those should be of the sweeter variety. I can recommend a few once I know what you think she likes..

Hmm, I personally am a huge drinker of Merlot, but first you need to find out what she drinks. After that, go to a wine store and ask there opinion on it.

well..last time I was there she was drinking carlo rossi or whatever the hell its called. And know she drank that cheap kind that comes in that bigass roundish glass jug lol.

I recomend a fine white or red from a wonderful company called MAD DOG 20/20 its very spendy at around $3.00 a bottle. This was always a big fave of mine while I was in college! After drinking this wonderful stuff, be prepared to remember nothing of your evening!

Hey bro I grew up making wine with my father and a couple of neighbors as a hobby. They make about 5,000 bottles a time with all different types. I can honestly say that it really comes down to personal taste for wine. Some years the grapes we would get produced a stronger bitter taste which I did not like but others did. Long story short she sounds like somewhat of a novice which more then likely means she does not like too much of a full body wine. Chardonnay can be fruity dry or off-dry. Merlot is mostly a mix of fruity and woody flavors(most popular wine). Cabs are full-flavored because of the tannins from the cabernet grape. Play safe when buying. I will give you a short list with some prices as a reference.

Duckhorn – any duckhorn wine is quality always rated past a 90 score. Problem is they can be expensive $70 and up.

Chateau La Fleur de Boulard 2004 – Very good deep red wine. ($40)

Shafer – always produces quality wines. 2005 received the most praises. ($20 and up)

Concha Y Toro – 2003 is excellent but all of their wines are good. ($50 and under) it’s a wine from Chile.

Yellow Tail – Its cheap and people love it. It actually is a good quality wine with a great price. Might not impress but it is a good wine. ($10-20)

Fan of sideways are we JP?

The movie or club? Well actually didn't see the movie and my dad belongs to the club. Funny thing is I don't really care for wine. Not sure why. I enjoy a good scotch much more. I always get a headache from wine. The only wine that doesn't really bother me is Bonterra its made from organic grapes its pretty good. Don't get me wrong I can appreciate a good wine but not what I call my drink of choice. To bad too because I could go the rents house and have a choice from thousands of bottles over the years ha.

I was speaking of the movie, one of my favorites.

Really, I will have to check it out... I traveled through Santa Barbara which is where I think the movie takes place? Its beautiful up there...

My mom was just out there last month for a wine tasting vacation, she went to the restaurant where they did alot of the filming.

It is mostly dry humor, you will either hate it or love it.
