A lot of folks can't understand how we came

to have an oil shortage here in our country.

~~~
Well, there's a very simple answer.
~~~

Nobody bothered to check the oil.

~~~
We just didn't know we were getting low.
~~~

The reason for that is purely geographical.

~~~
Our OIL is located in
~~~

ALASKA

~~~
California
~~~

Coastal Florida

~~~
Coastal Louisiana
~~~

Kansas

~~~
Oklahoma
~~~

Pennsylvania

and

Texas

~~~
Our
DIPSTICKS
are located in
Washington, DC !!!
bump......fuck the people who dont want do drill for new oil..........let them pay 4.00 per gallon
the technology today is pretty safe and sophistacated i think we could drill for oil while preventing any kind of catasrophy
You are all missing the master plan .......................................
There's no shortage of oil, there won't be for quite some time either. The price being so high benefits the production companies as their profits go through the roof but if they released more into the general supply then the price would drop. It's the same as they do with diamonds. they're only expensive because the world's stockpile is kept in secure warehouses in Antwerp, Belgium. They'd be fucked if there was a fire though!
Plenty of oil and drilling in Alaska and GOM won't help the price any, but it will help us depend less on foreign oil, thus allowing us to import from more allies.
if it wasent for green peace we would have tons of oil
theres a TON of oil off the coast of alaska and off the costs of america by the gulf
What about the oil companies posting billions in profit each quarter. there's no reason for the price of gas to be this high. i know they're looking at alternatives for future use. No doubt if cars could run on air we'd be paying for that too. Shit we'd see .03 per breath!
LOL, no doubt.
Enough with the billions in profits. This is media speqing garbage that has led you to believe the reason prices are so high. Exxon accounts for maybe 3 or 4% at the most, of all the oil in the world, do you really think if they didn't make so many billions (only 13% profit) that the price would drop? This is simple case of supply and demand.
Furthermore, this isn't just about those stupid gas prices....oil is used in almost everything. So when China buys 100 million computers, guess what? Yup demand for oil goes up to make all those plastic computer cases.
You want a price decrease? Go ask Saudi, Russia, Venezuala, for a price cut. THEY control the oil.
I talked to a guy who worked for an oil company and told him to honestly tell me whats going on. He said not a damn thing, that he doesnt see any shortage in oil and that since the price of a barrell his shot up his company just keeps growing in size. Damit that is fucking gay. Do you know there is a place in south africa where gas is like 20cents a gallon damit. I asked him what he was doing in IL and he told me that they were drilling in Southern IL for oil.
I do work for all the oil company's all over the world and your friend is right on. There is no shortage, at least nothing different than the past few years. With China and India growing the way they are, demand has gone up tremendously.
Yes, my company and every other engineering company in Houston is booming.
Edit: BTW, Venezuala has $0.13/gallon of gas, but would you live there?
why is it so cheap in such small countries when we probably are in such need of demand..shouldnt we get the better price on this shit for getting in such bulk? or am im clueless to this?
UR clueless.
#1, Small countries have very large stake in the oil. For example, Cheveron operating off the shores of Angola will usually have a 50/50% stake in the field. So, first, Chev pays a shitload of money to Angola for the right to operate in their waters, then they have to hire a shitload of Angolans for construction etc. Angola is receiving lots and lots of money for essentially doing nothing.
Now for the price:
The gov of Venezuala/Angola/Nigeria operate a bit differently than we do. Trust me when I say that saving $4 a gallon is not worth living in Nigeria.
Just a few more reasons ours cost so much.
Biggest Reason: We use 25% of all the oil in the world and produce about 5%. Supply and demand. Buying in bulk does not apply since there isn't any "extra" oil available.
1, We don't export any, so we don't have any extra for ourselves. We have to buy it all. Buying corn on the farm is cheaper than buying corn in Alaska.
2, Gov places all kinds of taxes on our gasoline. Still cheaper than Europe where it's about $10/gallon
3, Gov gets about 13% in royalties for all operations in GOM, gulf of mexico. Would be nice if we the people got some of that.
4, Transportation. It's pricey to move gasoline/oil to and from refineries/distribution centers. Our country is rather large so transportation costs money. ie, you pay a tarrif to transport something in a pipeline.
It's actually very interesting how many factors are involved in pricing of oil.
Hope that helps...
excellent read sir..i feel less clueless:freak: your good for something:nerd:
To hoard what we have and bleed everyone else dry.
100% right and we should it's the american way. There is no oil shortage at all. Canada has the 2nd largest oil feild and they don't even have to drill it's in the rock. Plus we have not even tapped into some more than a trillion barrels of oil yet still out there.
I say we bleed these 3rd world countries for all their oil. Like Iraq and such. As their econmy falls so will they.
I'll pay $4.00 a gallon and higher if that's what it takes. Hell it's not so bad I just bought a car that gets 33mpg.
DAMN....Prices doubled in a year.
That's got to fucking hurt the ol pocket book
It's not oil we need. It's refineries. Believe it or not, much of the oil pulled from the ground is not usable for fuel. And building a new refinery is next to impossible. The EPA restrictions the gov't had in place now makes it more of a pain in the ass than it's worth. Plus it would take about 10 to 12 years to build a working refinery. At least one capable of taking large sums of oil. And if you think about the most reasonable place to put one; 1. there is already one there....Gulf area. 2. Problem, notice what always happens in the gulf?? Hurricanes. Cause issues with a refinery, the cost of fuel will go up, and it will also cause the ports in the area to obviously close. There are only so many ports with a refinery within a reasonable distance.
Another little factoid, oil in the field is still the same price it was years ago. Right around $30 a barrel. There are so many things having to do with the price of a gallon of gas it's stupid. We could pay $.99 a gallon and the effing oil companies would still be going to the bank on a regular basis. Believe me!! Posting the profits they do is stunning to say the least. I think there is something else going on beyond what anyone has touched on here. And if you think anyone will tell you everything that's going on behind closed doors in Washington, You're nuts!!
Just my $.02
