I take very little time off, maybe a couple days and then. I really never seen benefits from time off unless injured.
Same here. Never have did periodization, light phases, deload phases blah blah blah. I bust ass EVERY time I am there, ALWAYS trying to get 1 more rep or 5 more lbs. Thats been my style for decades.![]()
I use to train 4 days a week but now switched to one day training; one day off with a higher intensity during the training. I find that my joints arent AS sore. Keyword "AS" And if I need a day here or there I take it. But when it comes to cutting down with lower calorie intake and more stress from training I will take a full week off of all training after about 8-10 weeks. For some reason I have a very hard time taking more than a week off. I will look at myself and think I look like crap and want to get in the gym and train again.
The longest I have taken off from the gym was 1 month post knee surgery than went back in the do upper body. The only reason why I will take a period off now if for injuries. In the past I would train with them but I believe it is counter productive now. Perhaps it is true that with age come wisdom.
Willi, to sum it up; if you are on vacation enjoy the time with your family and make memories for they are priceless.
I've always took a week off for a CNS break about every 8 weeks but bumped it up to 7 days off over 12 weeks but here lately been so busy with some legal shit and sitting around the clock with my dad who's about to pass away so it's been about 3 weeks since I've been able to go and I'm starting to get depressed but a mans gota do what a mams gota do..[/QUO
Thank you Freezerdude! My CNS needs a break, been shaking lately.
I am remembering you and your dad in my prayers. Sorry to hear about that.

It will be sad. Both my mom and dad have gone home. So, I'm with you. I would do anything I could to help you.
I don't take any time off unless I'm on vacation for a few days. I feel far too guilty when I don't work out.
you need to take some type of break....your body cant go all on all the time... taking a break could mean a change up on training...but for me, I have taken up to three weeks with no gym time..
I do six weeks on one week off and next week is my off week yippee!
I take very little time off, maybe a couple days and then. I really never seen benefits from time off unless injured.
my time off comes every year really, at some point tax season (public accountant) gets too crazy and I go to 1 day a week and thats my off time
For me sometimes I feel this life is a curse. So when I get a 2 week off gym break I'm really happy. Then I feel like I'm letting people down, start feeling guilty then get all motivated again. That week back is intense!
I used to train myself to soreness and injury ,After a Knee surgery in 09' and a shoulder surgery in 10' I have since backed way off .
I am like you and a lot of other folks in that manner as I hated to take time off from the gym, The gym is my release , my anger management per say my stress relief and a place where I am King regardless of anyone elses opinion .
Anyway to answer your question I typically will train 5 days a week hard and heavy for about 12 weeks , take a week off and return to gym at moderation with a 3 day a week lifting routine for around 4 weeks ,
Then I take another full week off and return to the 5 day lifting routine .
I actually feel stronger and feel a lot more stretch and pump per say when I return from my week off everytime .
Cardio is NOT my fortay at all so my days off from gym I eat and eat more and stare at myself in the mirror in amazement and think in my mind I should be in the gym .
