I am cutting out all the expenses in my life besides the absolute necessary rent food medical,. Gonna live like a nomad.

I was thinking abuot getting rid of my car, and buying a moped. I only drive abuot .5 miles to work each way and 2 miles to the gym each way, and ocassional trips here and there to coffee shops book stores, social hang outs. Once in a rare while i will make a twelve mile trip to somewhere.

Do you think its possible to get through on a moped? even in winter. in a small mid west city. near chicago. And renting a car occassionaly when i need to go on a long trip.

I can survive on a bike year round. And I do 76km round trip to work.! What's that 45 mile?

But the coldest it gets is 5-6 degrees Celsius. I dunno what that is but it's farkin cold. And it is no where near snowing. If you have all the gear your right but you have to no how to ride in snow it's slippery brother

No, i have not, LOl. the last time i was on a two wheel was when i was 14 or 15.. and it was in warm ass weather. sounds like a no go..
 
damn tahts only like 50 degree farnheit.. Thats a sunny day in chicago so to speak lol. it gets down to -10 celcius in winter here

When I was younger all I had was motorcycles. No cars at all. It is not very fun on rainy days, cold days, very hot days, snow, sleet, rain, of course I live in FL.
Not a good idea. What about when you meet a chick. Hey babe want a ride on my moped! NOT!

Lol i thought abuot that. Just got out of a deep relationship man thoguh. pretty shaken up,, to the point of not wanting enthign for a while..

ditto, I used to ride till the roads were too icey to ride, and the spring time roads were melted enuff. I live in Alberta Canada

No mopeds! I ride a bike just about all year round in NY, it gets really tricky in the snow and ice. It's downright miserable when it's below 40 degrees. I have cars, just prefer motorcycles most days.

Mopeds are like FAT ASS Chicks...There Fun as hell to ride when no one is looking but you damn sure dont go bragging to your buddies about it ....

Im outside the box here brutha ,,But I say go for it ....Buy yourself a scooter and be a Nomad........Just dont drive towards Cabreeny Greens ...(SP) wrong ....but you get the idea...Im not to far from you ..
 
If you're gonna go the moped route, at least get a classic Vespa and tell the chicks you're retro.
When I was at Chanute Air Force Base (before they closed) I used to drive 12 miles to Urbana and the Univ of Illinios. Great time, big steaks, cute college girls. I even went to a frat party as an Alumni (from another school whic I was) but it was vcery cool.
Of course, I was driving a 1973 914 Porsche I bought for $200 and restored.
"Hey, wanna go for a ride in my Porsche?," will ALWAYS sound more inviting than, "Hey, wanna ride on my moped, you can wear the helmut?"

Dude what do Fat Chicks and Mopeds have in common? Their both fun to ride until your friends see you on them!! Stay away from the Mopeds oh yeah And the fat Chicks!!
