My family and I took a direct hit from Ike. I live in the Houston area just east of the city. We have been with out everything now for a week. I'm enjoying the luxury of internet access from a client that I take care of. Never knew how much I like the internet and how much I need it.
My wife's Mother and father live in Seabrook right off Galveston Bay, they had 5' of water in their home. I thought I had it bad. I lost all the shingles from my roof which allowed water to fill 3 of my upstairs rooms and the water managed to find it's way down to the bottom floor ceiling where we got it to stop.
I spent 2 day's in my attic with blankets and towels and even clothes to help stop the rain from totally destroying my house. I'm now starting to get mold from the water damage and need to rip the sheetrock out. I put a call in to my insurance company to get the well we don't cover this and we don't cover that. (FUCKING WHAT A WASTE OF MY MONEY) The definition of insurance should be to insure not to help you when you need it the most so go fuck yourself, what a crime if you as me.
I was a smart one, for some reason I went and purchased a 6000w generator from Home Depot and a 10,000btu ac unit to help keep my living room cool. After a day of running the generator it will no longer start. I had to pull the carb apart and do a in the dark rebuild and now that bitch purrs like a kitten,, better than when I bought it (Thank god for all the racing I use to do)
I had 12 people staying with me,, mostly old people that lived in the mandatory evac zone and 7 dogs. It was ruff trying to keep everyone dry and cool but I did it and still am. I have had some help but mostly I have been helping everyone that I can. I have been a generator fixer and been keeping all my neighbors generators running like a champ.
I have to say I have never been more proud of being a AMERICAN and a TEXAN in my whole life. I would not change anything other than I wish I was rich so I could go help feed people who don't even have food or water because I would be right there...
I'm not sure what the outcome of all of this will be but I can say it has made me a much stronger and giving person. I have always been a loner but not anymore.. If I can hold out my hand and help someone I will do it without a second guess.
It?s funny,, all the roads my life has taken me, Drag Racing. Car Mechanic, Construction worker, Cook, IT Person has some way played a roll in what has happen to me and my family. I?m so glad that I always did what I had to do to survive, it has taught me so many thing that I use in life today. What may seem like a shit as job one day might just pay off?. ?NO REGRETS?
Thanks for listening It just feels good to get all of this out for a change. I don't wont my family to see my weak moment,, not right now...
Can?t wait to be back on with you guys and gals..
