I didnt really used to work out my legs but I just started working dem out.

Today i was squatting on a smith rack and I was going all the way down. Almost like I sat down on the ground and then was coming back up and I felt somethng snap in my hamstring.. seems like i pulled my hamstring. Is this a common injury. How long does it usually take to recover.. I always had real tight hamstring and didnt really warm up today before squatting
Also when i was lying in bed right now i could feel spasms in my lower back.. kinda felt like my nerve was being pinched. not too bad. they went away in a few minutes.

What do you experienced guys have to say to avoid injuries to legs?

I just want to start out proper.
You know for eg.. if u keep benching after a while u are guaranteed to get a elbow pain or a muscle pull somewhere, i dont want something like that to happen..
You get what i m saying??
allrightthanks

I highlighted what one of your problems was. You may also not be using proper form, or using too much weight, it's hard to tell without seeing you do it. As for recovery time, that completey depends on the individual person. Some people recover quickly and some don't. The important thing to remember is to stay away from your legs until your hamstring is recovered and ALWAYS warm up.

squat + smith = trouble

this is a very true statement you might think its safer then the rack but its not at all. youre locked into a very specific position which happens to be bad form.

My one and only squat related accident was on the smith... there were no safety locks and my knee gave out i went to the ground with 360lbs... broke my knee, tore my quad, and thanks to not being able to bail the weight i got a concussion too. the bar rolled up my neck and cracked me in the back of the head... i will never...ever.. go near the smith again...

squatting in general though you prolly wanna warm up then stretch before and work your way up slowly per set

ALWAYS WARM UP AND STRETCH! LET ME REPEAT, ALWAYS WARM UP AND STRETCH! JASON (Mahaffhje sp?) and Sadie are ON THE MONEY THERE! I have had 2 back surgeries. This is my cardinal rule.

dude i use a box and make sure i touch the box and then go back up. This way i can make sure i am not going more than parallel. When u squat u are suppose to go into the seated position

100% agree . it forces a bad groove/poor form .

yeah, I Just did the smith squat yesterday for the first time. I threw on 405, did it a handful of times but it just didn't feel right. Normally, I always use the rack, but some dipshit was curling like a dumbass in there.
